Holiday Entertainment Plentiful this Weekend

The Ocean City Pops and the City’s Theater Company and Repertory Theater Company will all present Christmas entertainment this weekend. THE POPS return with JOY TO THE WORLD, Sat., 8 p.m., Dec. 19 at the Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave. This traditional holiday concert features beloved Christmas carols and music with a full Pops Orchestra under the direction of Bill Scheible. Featured performers are critically acclaimed, Elisa Matthews and baritone Dominic Inferrera singing with the Pops, joined by the Cape Shore Chorale, directed by Scott Briener. Excerpts from Bach’s Sleepers Awake Cantata will be performed as well as holiday favorites, Twelve Days of Christmas and White Christmas along with traditional carols and songs of the season. Message in Bottle Winner Will Return Here for First Night

Want to become a not so instant celebrity? Put a message in a bottle. Have it dropped off at sea. And wait. That is what Heidi Kay Werstler did 24 years ago when Ocean City held its one and only Message in a Bottle contest. With the help of her father, Heidi, then 6, sealed the message in a soda bottle obtained from a boardwalk store. Then she waited, and waited. Years passed. The bottle became a distant memory. Recently Heidi’s memory was pleasantly jolted. Her bottle washed ashore after the Nor’easter that racked the East Coast in November. The bottle had traveled 200 miles (approximately 8 miles per year) to the Outer Banks. Parade, City Open House, Train Show, Sindia Day – This Weekend!

The City will follow-up its very successful holiday program of last week with another weekend of fun filled events. The action begins on the Boardwalk, Saturday Dec.5 at 10 a.m., with our popular TRAIN SHOW inside the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. This is a two-day event set for 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. on Sat. and 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. on Sun. Children will be fascinated by the colorful Garden Railway display on the stage of the Pier. It features larger sized trains built to be displayed outdoors. Youngsters watch from the stage and are permitted to work the controls of the exhibit.
