Gala Holiday Celebration Friday, Rides for Kids at Annex

There will be a truck stop and train station at City Hall Annex this Friday. Colorful rides that little ones will find fascinating and fun. Wonderland Amusement Pier has installed a mini amusement park for kids at 901Asury Ave. It’s a main feature of the City’s OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS in the Downtown that kicks off the holiday season Nov. 26. The free rides will open 1 p.m. and be available throughout the celebration that concludes at 5 p.m. That’s when Santa arrives dramatically from City Hall roof with assistance from a fire department hook and ladder truck. Quiet Festival, Veterans Day, Huge Crafts Show This Week

The QUIET FESTIVAL, this community's annual crusade for silent stuff, is set for Nov.11 through 14. The event, inaugurated 15 years ago, showcases quiet pastimes ranging from paper airplane flying and paper clip art to acoustic folk concerts and poetry readings. Admission to all programs is free. Official ceremonies will be held on Fri., Nov.12 at noon in front of City Hall, 9th and Asbury Ave. It includes the traditional YAWN ALONG to the tune of Beautiful Dreamer, the inspirational Maple Pod drop, a tinkling concert by the world’s only Wind Chimes Band who will play jingle Bells and Brother Can You Spare a Chime, kites with Air Circus, a quiet song by Soprano Nancy Fox, leaf squeezing, feather dropping and bubbles galore. Trail of Two Cities this Weekend, The Quiet Festival Begins Nov. 10

The Trail of Two Cities between Ocean City and Somers Point will be a nostalgic jaunt for many this year. The 15th Annual 5K run/walk across the antiquated bridges and causeway will be the last before the old spans are demolished to make way for the new, multi-million dollar sky scrapers that will change the landscape of Rt. 52. The old fashioned bridges that yawned open to let boats through and cause traffic back-ups will be a thing of the past. But the former causeway, with its proximity to the water and congenial view of the bay, has installed fond memories into the hearts of many visitors and residents alike over the years.
