Last Minute Reminders for First of the Year

FIRST NIGHT is a unique opportunity for families and individuals to obtain eight hours of professional entertainment on New Year’s Eve.  for just $15 per person. It is definitely the Best Entertainment Value at the Jersey Shore providing over 70 entertainment programs and fireworks at midnight. Also included are rides at Wonderland Pier from 5 to 9 p.m., plus miniature golf at Gillian’s Adventure Golf from 2 to 9 p.m. The program is varied and appeals to all ages. Everything is set for a great First Night program on New Year’s Eve in Ocean City. The Venues are ready, our volunteers are eager and City streets are in fine shape. Pass the word. First Night has a great entertainment program scheduled for you and your friends. There’s an impression in some places that all of the Jersey Shore remains devastated. Ocean City is very fortunate that its business community has made an amazing comeback and that the boardwalk is in good shape. See the Real Stars at First Night Through a Telescope!

A new feature has been added to First Night thanks to the Ocean City High School Science Club and Dr. John Herrmann, its Astronomy teacher. All visitors to First Night, our outstanding New Year’s Eve Celebration, will have the opportunity to see the “real stars” at the High School’s new observatory located on the 5th St. side of the school grounds near the football field. The Observatory will be open to all FIRST NIGHT Button Holders from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Visitors will be able “to enjoy the wonders of the heavens during the holiday season,” says Dr. Herrmann. The Science Club will offer First Nighters telescope observations and photography of Jupiter and its moon, the waning of the gibbous moon and other celestial wonders. Christmas Parade Friday, First Night Buttons on Sale

Last week Santa descended from the roof of City Hall to greet his admirers. This week he will enter town on a Retail Merchant’s Association float as the grand marshal of the City’s annual CHRISTMAS PARADE. The event is set for Friday, Dec. 7 starting 7 p.m. Santa will float from 6th and Asbury Ave. to 11th and Asbury, then return to the mini park at 9th and Asbury Ave. to greet his friends, pose for photos and distribute treats to children. The Pitman Hobo Band, Ocean City High School Band and Pennsport String Band will serenade Santa in the manner to which he has become accustomed.
