Dietz & Watson Hamming it up for Doo Dah Parade

A new category has been added to this year’s DOO DAH Parade set for April 13th. It will be for the best entry depicting the “WE ARE READY” theme emphasizing that Ocean City is prepared to accommodate its vacationers for the upcoming season. The City’s Tourism Commission is running TV commercials emphasizing the point in the Philadelphia area and our Chamber of Commerce and City are promoting the theme on their respective websites and FACEBOOK. We encourage social media enthusiasts to post it and tweet it to their many friends. Dietz and Watson, the Parade’s major sponsor, has generously agreed to donate one of its hefty, semi-boneless Smoked hams as the grand prize for the best entry. All entrants in the category will receive special certificates of appreciation. Grand Marshal of the Parade... Read More

Suzanne Muldowney to Mark 25 Years of Doo Dah

Suzanne Muldowney has been a regular at Ocean City special events for decades. April 13th will mark her 25th appearance in the Doo Dah Parade. She has also appeared consistently in the Baby Parade, Halloween Parade, Christmas Parade and a number of other City programs. These include Martin Z. Mollusk Day, the Miss Crustacean Hermit Crab Beauty Pageant and Weird Contest Week during which she hosts a Super Hero Impersonation Contest. Suzanne has a beautiful soprano voice. She is blessed with perfect pitch. This makes her perfect for performing “Here It Comes, Miss Crustacean” when the winning Hermit Crab waddles down a flower bedecked runway and the inspirational rendering of “Some Enchanted Morning” when Martin Z. Mollusk creeps onto the sand and attempts to see his shadow. If he does, summer... Read More

Barclie, Canine Icon, To Be Remembered at Woofin’ Paws Contest

I first met Barclie when he was a puppy in the office of Shriver’s Saltwater Taffy about 17 years ago. His best friends and caretakers were Meryl Berwick, now Merlyl  Vangelov plus Meryl’s Mom Ginny Berwick and Hank Glaser, both co-owners of Shriver’s on the Boardwalk at the time. Barclie was an endearing, affectionate pet. Meryl told me he was a Labradoodle, a cross between a Lab and a poodle. She had rescued him from an unscrupulous dog peddler who had threatened to put the puppy down if someone didn’t buy him. She took one look at the puppy’s sad, little eyes. The rest is history. When I visited Shriver’s offices, Barclie was usually the first one to greet me. He would look me over, sniff a few times, remember that I... Read More
