Join the 59th Celebration of Night in Venice

Night In Venice will celebrate its 59th Anniversary on July 20th. The colorful Boat Parade and Bay celebration began in 1954 to mark the Diamond Jubilee or 75th Anniversary of Ocean City. It normally features about 80 boats and 250 decorated homes. This year the Parade will be enhanced by the HERO Foundation that promotes the use of designated drivers to end drunk driving tragedies. The Elliott’s lost their son, Ensign John Elliott, a graduate of the Naval Academy, when he was struck and killed by a drunk driver. The HERO Foundation will enter ten decorated boats in the Parade that will be a salute... Read More

Are You Ready to Sculpt Fries and Crumble Cookies?

Taffy Sculpting! French Fry Sculpting! Cookie Crumbling? and more are all features of Ocean City’s July Jubilee, June 24th to 28th, at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.  The event includes fun contests for all ages leading into the gala 4th of July weekend. When she called me, I suggested that we repeat contests from our popular Weird Week held in August. And so it came to pass, that the last week in June was designated July Jubilee by Elsie. One contest is held daily, 11 a.m. in the Pavilion of the Music Pier. Entry is free. The... Read More

Ocean City has been hosting Miss New Jersey for 17 years. The franchise was secured during a meeting in Atlantic City at Miss America headquarters. Christine Wright and I attended the session to assure Miss America officials that Ocean City was ready to host the State Pageant. Wright ran the pageant for about five years and was succeeded by Michael Allegretto, former City Recreation Director, who was later asked to join the Miss America staff. Lou and Silvia Barthold then took over and Lou now runs the pageant alone... Read More
