Just Wanted to Remind you That…

The second MR. MATURE AMERICA Pageant is set for March 28 at the Music Pier starting at 7 p.m. At 6 p.m. there will be a display of Memorabilia and keepsakes from area folks in conjunction with the Pageant’s theme MEMORIES. The Ocean City Historical Museum will feature a display. The exhibit will be open both before and after the program. We hope to use this exhibit as the basis for an Old Year’s Celebration that is in the planning stages with the Museum. Anyone who would like to show their Memorabilia on March 28th should call (609) 399-6111-Ext. 9300 or email msoifer@hotmail.com. Exhibitors will get free tickets to the Pageant. Spring Training Comes to Library on Saturday

You will be treated to the humorous and bizarre moments of the PHILLIES SPRING TRAINING program of 1915 on Saturday at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 17th and Simpson Ave. This was the season, 100 years ago, that the team won its First National League Pennant. It was quite different from the Spring Training being held in Florida today. The gloves were smaller, the baseballs were less hyper active and the players did not enjoy astronomical salaries. They had to have second jobs during the off season. But that 1915 session would have made an excellent Soap Opera. Some players almost drowned in a storm, several members of the team were pursued by a lynch mob and there was an exciting confrontation when the team traveled to St. Petersburg by boat. Phillies Add an Array of Prizes to Feb. 21st Program

The Philadelphia Phillies organization will add an array of prizes to the program on Feb. 21st about its 1915 Pennant Winning team. This is when baseball author and Phillies authority Bob Warrington will present an informative and humorous talk about Spring Training 100 years ago and how it differs from today. Warrington will speak 1 p.m. at the Community Center’s Chris Maloney Auditorium, 17th and Simpson Ave. Admission is free. When the Phillies learned about this, they decided to make it even more interesting by offering the following prizes: For a Trivia Answering contest, the team will provide 25 prizes: 5 Chase Utley, 5 Ryan Howard and 5 Roy Halladay Bobble Heads, 5 Jimmy Rollins All-Time Hits Leader Prints and 5 Fedora Caps. (Feb. 13-15) For Your Valentine’s Weekend, the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company will present the Off Broadway Sensation FORBIDDEN BROADWAY’S GREATEST HITS: VOLUME 1.  This family favorite “spoof” rolls into town for three shows, February 13 and 14th at 7:30 pm and February 15 at 2pm at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.  No Broadway Show is safe from his satirical production that pokes good natured fun at hit musicals and the legendary performers who starred in them.
