Easter Events in Ocean City This Week and Weekend

(April 2-3)  The Ocean City Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave., presents the LIVING LAST SUPPER, 7 p.m. Experience an evening of drama and music as Jesus shares his last meal with his disciples followed by a unique communion service.  Admission is free. (April 3) All members of the Community are invited to prepare for Easter at the Annual GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE from noon to 3p.m. at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Eight and Central Ave. Area clergy will preach on “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” Music by St. Peter’s choir and soloists. The Ocean City Ministerium and Ecumenical Council are sponsors of the service. Worshippers are invited to come and go or stay for the entire service. Memories is Theme of Mr. Mature America Pageant

Ocean City’s second annual Mr. Mature America Pageant is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Music Pier. Seven contestants and three special guests will be featured in this unique contest for men 55 years and older. In addition to dancing to a rousing opening number “It’s Raining Men” (an amazing demonstration of senior agility) contestants will be asked to perform a talent, demonstrate poise and discuss their fondest memory. My fondest memory has to be waiting impatiently for my first daughter, Rebecca to be born. Finally a nurse appeared holding an adorable infant (she looks just like her mother) and all was well in the world. Rebecca grew up to become a nurse, herself. It was “Raining Men” at the Music Pier Sunday

This past Sunday, MR. MATURE AMERICA CONTESTANTS gathered at the Music Pier for their initial orientation. There will be seven contestants and three special senior guest performers. The contestants are all in good shape. Only one using a cane which he discarded when rehearsing the lively dance number, “It’s Raining Men,” that will open the show on March 28. Choreographer Jessica Albertson lined up her charges and the music boomed from the sound system. After initial instructions the men high stepped, twirled and were permitted to improvise at the end of the dance. It was obvious that they were having a good time. Especially during the improvisation part during which you will see gyrations that defy the forces of gravity. “Raining Men” will be drenched with fun. Rock’N Roll Hall of Famer will Perform at Mr. Mature America Pageant, March 28

OCEAN CITY, N.J.--- DICK RICHARDS, Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame Drummer and an original member of the legendary “Bill Haley’s Comets,” will be a guest performer at the Mr. Mature America Pageant. The 91 year old musician, a resident of Ocean City, still tours with a new edition of the Comets. He has also formed a local group, “The Ready Rockers,” who play Oldies concerts throughout the area. Richards and his Rockers will perform “Shake, Rattle and Roll” at the Pageant. The Rock classic will feature a rousing, drum solo by the durable musician.
