Block Party Highlights Columbus Day Weekend

What’s Happening in Ocean City, NJ 10/5/16

(Oct. 8) Our annual Indian Summer FALL BLOCK PARTY featuring more than 400 crafters, food vendors, music and more is just a few days away. The event is set from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 5th Street to 14th Street on Asbury Avenue. Downtown restaurants and stores will be open during the Block Party.

The Fall Block Party is a rain-or-shine event.

FIRST NIGHT BUTTONS will be sold at the discount price of $15 at the City’s Downtown Welcome Center at City Hall (use the 9th Street entrance). Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Ocean City with more than 60 First Night events for one low button price.

Block party entertainment runs at intervals between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and includes: free pony rides for children and popular Magician Chad Juros on the Tabernacle Grounds at 6th and Asbury Ave.; the Big Daddy Band featuring Larry Conner and Mike Bracey, 6th and Asbury Ave.; Robert Boney Band at 7th St.; singer Tony DeLuca, at 8th St.; Tina and the Teenettes, rock ‘n roll band, at 9th St.; Tidal Wave at 10th St.; The Bubba Mac Blues Band at 13th St.; and Keith Hickman at 14th St. For information, call 1-800-BEACH-NJ.

(Oct, 7, 8 & 9) NUNSENSE: The entertaining, award-winning musical comedy performed by the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company. This acclaimed Best Broadway Musical begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken cook, Sister Julia, accidentally poisons 52 of the sisters placing the church in dire need of burial funds. The surviving sisters decide the best way to raise money is to produce a variety show. The result is hilarious entertainment featuring tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz and numerous surprises. (Oct. 9) 5TH ANNUAL SPOOKS N’ KOOKS COSTUME SURF CONTEST: Registration begins 10 a.m. at 7th Street Beach. Entry fee is 10 canned goods or a $10 ShopRite Gift Card. (Oct. 9) 21 DOWN BUDDY WALK: Registration and Pre-Walk party held between 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. at O.C. Civic Center, (6th and Boardwalk). Enjoy snacks, face-painting, music and other fun activities. (Nov. 10-12) QUIET FESTIVAL: Opening Ceremonies, 11 a.m. Thursday at Mark Soifer Park across from City Hall features the “Yawn along” to the tune of Beautiful Dreamer, Quiet Kites, Maple Leaf Drop, Paper Airplane Flying, the World’s Only Wind Chimes Band, Bubbles Galore and more.

THE QUIET PET CHALLENGE is Saturday, 9 a.m. until noon at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 17th and Simpson Ave. Contestants can be mice, hamsters, gerbils, turtles, rabbits, ferrets, birds, etc. Participants are judged for cuteness, most unusual quiet pet, best decorated display/habitat, best costume, Superhero themes, Swimsuit, and lettuce eating plus Best of Show.
