Veterans Day and Quiet Festival this Week

(Nov. 10) QUIET FESTIVAL: Opening ceremonies will be held at noon at Mark Soifer Park across from City Hall, 9th Street and Asbury Avenue. The event features unique quiet entertainment including the inspirational “Yawn Along” to the tune of “Beautiful Dreamer,” Doug Jewell (“The Quiet Pirate”) with kites and bubbles galore, the World’s Only Wind Chimes Band, Nancy Fox (“The Quiet Soprano”), a yoga demonstration, quiet poetry, paper airplanes with Ken Thorpe and crew, and more. All in attendance will receive an “I Survived the 2016 Presidential Campaign” certificate to celebrate the conclusion of the noisy, unsettling event and the Quiet Festival’s soothing programs that are assisting in the recovery from weeks of hassle. TRAIL OF TWO CITIES TURNS 21 ON SATURDAY

What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 11/3/16 The Trail of Two Cities 5K Run/Walk over the 9th Street Causeway, an Ocean City-Somers Point tradition for 21 years now, returns on Saturday, Nov. 5. When the race started, Nick Regina, who later founded the South Jersey Jazz Society, was public relations director of Somers Point. He called me and suggested the two communities hold an event together. I thought this was a good idea. Running was gaining popularity at the time. So I suggested a run/walk over the old 9th Street Causeway. Jr. Miss Pageant, Welcome Night, Halloween Parade Next

What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 10/19/16 Ocean City has three pageants for young women. These include the Little Miss, Junior Miss and Miss Ocean City pageants. The winners of each pageant represent the community during the year at various events, contests and parades. They help to judge contests, pose for photos with visitors and work together. They are a valuable asset to Ocean City. This Saturday (Oct. 22), the JUNIOR MISS OCEAN CITY PAGEANT will feature 15 contestants competing at the William and Nancy Hughes Performing Arts Center at Ocean City High School, 6th Street and Atlantic Avenue. (Oct. 13) The Ocean City Fire Department and IAFF Local 4032 will hold an OPEN HOUSE at 550 Asbury Ave., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Everybody in the community is invited to this free event. It will feature a live burn demonstration, a “smoke house” where kids can safely learn to navigate a dark and smoky structure, tours of trucks, “stop-drop-and-roll,” hot dogs and pretzels.
