Canine Celebrity and Best Friend to be Honored at Doo Dah Parade

Guided by Karen Quigley of Sewell, the Chinese crested Chihuahua mix has made appearances at hundreds of gatherings projecting a simple message: “You don’t have to be beautiful to be loveable.” The story begins when Karen rescues Elwood from his breeder who can find no buyers for the puppy. Basset Hounds Love Doo Dah; Valentine Shows Set For This Weekend – By Mark Soifer, Ocean City Publicist

For the 11th consecutive year The Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue League will hold its Boardwalk Waddle as part of the Doo Dah Parade set for Sat., April 14. This is one of the largest aggregations of the floppy eared canines in the United States. Over 600 navigate the downtown and Boardwalk, many in costume. It is a pawesome spectacle! But that’s not all. On Fri. April 13, the Rescue League will stage its Basset Hound Olympics at 1 p.m. on the Tabernacle Grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave. This is a hilarious competition well worth seeing if you can take off from work without getting fired. Night in Venice Theme Announced; Travel Channel Commends City

“Do You Remember When?” will be the optional theme for NIGHT IN VENICE 2012. The nostalgic theme will give boaters and homeowners plenty of flexibility. For instance, decorations could recall your favorite song, past eras like the ‘50s, the ‘60s, even the ’20s if you want to go back to the Flapper days, your favorite movie of all time, Ocean City memories, etc. The theme is just a suggestion. You are free to select any theme you wish. The Night In Venice Committee began providing suggestions five years ago when it began receiving numerous requests for decorative ideas. Ocean City will welcome the fall season with yet another Wacky But Not Tacky Contest, The King and Queen of Plop on Friday, Sept. 2. (Aug. 31) But before we get to that we should report that National Public Radio’s popular Show, “FROM THE TOP,” hosted by famed pianist, Christopher O’Reilly will tape a broadcast with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, today, 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The show is scheduled as a regular feature of the Pops’ summer schedule. REMINDERS Aug. 11: Ocean City's 102nd BABY PARADE is set for Thurs., Aug. 11 starting 10:15 a.m. Route is from 6th to 12th Sts. on the Boardwalk.
