Mr. Mature America Pageant Set For This Saturday

What's Happening 3/10/16 The third annual Mr. Mature America Pageant will be held on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The event is the only talent pageant for men 55 and older. It celebrates the talents, relevance and contributions of our senior citizens. The show will feature seven contestants and special performances by non- competing senior entertainers. There will be a display of senior art work in the solarium and Jerry Lukas, a renowned senior cartoonist, will create free, personalized cartoons for visitors. What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 3/4/16 The contestants for this year’s Mr. Mature America Pageant March 12th at 7 p.m. on the Ocean City Music Pier represent a variety of talents: They include John Phillips of Somers Point with a Karate demonstration (He will break boards on stage); Tom McGill, Ocean City, a comedian; Rene Sese, Ocean City, a singer; William Andrew Dowling, Ventnor City, a poet; Ray Hufnagle, Somers Point, an artist; Peter Sposato, Toms River, a singer; Bob D’amore, Ocean City, a pianist and  Captain Joel Fogel, Somers Point, a pianist. Super Hero Comics Weekend Set For Ocean City

A weekend devoted to the comics is set for Ocean City April 9-10. Visitors will be able to MEET THE CREATORS OF SUPER HEROES and comic book characters at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Participating in “OC Con,” will be Paris Cullins of DC and Marvel Comics, Rusty Gilligan or Archie Comics, Disney Films and Upper Deck, Bob Petrecca of DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Upper Deck, and many more creative writers and artists. Discussion panels are planned for both days. Stop by Sunday at 2 p.m. to participate in or see a Cosplay (costume contest). Hall of Fame Rock’n Roller Returns to Pageant

Ocean City’s Dick Richards, a member of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, will return as a special guest to the Mr. Mature America Pageant, March 12 at the Music Pier. Richards was the original drummer of Bill Haley’s Comets. An amazingly vigorous 92, he still travels the World performing concerts with the remaining members of the legendary band. He also has organized his own group, the Ready Rockers, who will perform with him at the Music Pier. Last year, Richards had the audience dancing in the aisles with a selection of Rock ‘n Roll favorites. Hank Glaser, Dick Sheeran to be Honored at Pageant

What's Happening 1/20/16 Longtime Boardwalk businessman Hank Glaser and veteran journalist Dick Sheeran will receive “Lifetime Appreciation Awards” during the City’s third annual Mr. Mature America Pageant on March 12th at the Music Pier. The Pageant celebrates the achievements of men 55 years and older, and is the only event of its kind in the United States “or the world as far as we can determine,” notes Mark Soifer, pageant founder. Glaser, former owner of Shriver’s Salt Water Taffy, has been a driving force on the Boardwalk for years. He was the first president of the Ocean City Boardwalk Merchants Assn.  and the initiator of Family Nights on the Boardwalk. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrations Set 2016

The celebration of DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.’S BIRTHDAY will start this Saturday, (Jan. 16 th) in Ocean City. The yearly national celebration is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Hughes Performing Arts Center of the Ocean City High School, 6th and Atlantic Ave.  A Soul Food Dinner will follow the program. Ocean City hosted the first celebration of Dr. King’s Birthday in Cape May County 26 years ago and has held one ever since. The program will begin with introductions by City Business Administrator Jim Mallon, followed by a musical selection, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” There will be a scripture reading by Rev.
