It’s Spring Training Time Again…Ah The Memories!

My favorite sport is baseball because the ball takes all of the punishment. You just stand up there at home plate and whack away with your bat. When you swing and miss you don’t feel any pain, maybe just some frustration. And let’s face it nobody has ever suffered a concussion from frustration. When I was a kid, we played three sports. It was football in the fall, basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring. That was it. There was no Little League or Midget Football. Our athletic field was a cindered lot on 4th St. that bordered the Chester Creek. We played touch football in the cinders after school. City Talent Show, Airforce Big Band Here in March

We've just received word that U.S. AIR FORCE BAND OF LIBERTY Jazz Band will perform at the Music Pier on Sat., March 6 at 7 p.m. One week later, March 13, the 7th Annual City Talent Show is set for the Pier starting at 6 p.m. The Air Force Jazz Band is currently touring the East Coast. You can expect an exciting program ranging from the traditions of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington to the contemporary jazz-pop sounds of today. The program is free but you must pick up complimentary tickets in advance. This has been the case with all of the Service bands we have hosted in the past. City to Cement Sister City Relationship with Philippines Jan. 14

Ocean City will officially establish a Sister City relationship with the municipality of San Jose in the Philippines on Jan.14 when City Council adopts a resolution initiated by Mayor Sal Perillo. San Jose Occidental Mindoro, is described as one of the fastest growing City’s in the Philippines. It is a progressive, booming community and the area surrounding it is known for its agricultural, tourism and craft industries.  San Jose has already passed its resolution endorsing the cooperative effort. The City’s resolution will cement the relationship. The two communities will begin working on mutually beneficial projects. Ocean City will highlight products produced in the Philippines in June with a two-day crafts festival at its Sports and Civic Center. Area businesses and the public will be invited. Parade, City Hall Open House, Sindia Day Set for Saturday

Over 40 organizations will participate in Ocean City’s Christmas Parade set for Sat., Dec. 13 starting 10:30 a.m. The Parade route is from 6th to 11 Sts. on Asbury Ave. The Parade will be followed by the second annual City Hall Open House from noon to 1:30 p.m. City Hall is located at the corner of 9th and Asbury Ave. Offices will be decorated with unique wreaths and there will be entertainment and refreshments. The Christmas Parade will feature bands, floats and costumed characters. It will be led by the Elizabeth High School Marching Band. Sat., Oct. 18--- The Junior Miss Ocean City Pageant is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Devon Vanderslice, who has been an outstanding Junior Miss, will preside. Performers will include Little Miss Ocean City, Carley Boehning, Miss Ocean City, Molly Lavin and former Junior Miss Ocean Karli Scott. Fifteen young ladies will compete for $4,700 in scholarships and awards. WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OCEAN CITY Oct. 10-13: Indian Summer Weekend featuring Mile-Long Fall Block Party: Ocean City’s Annual Fall Block Party is set for Sat., Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Asbury Ave. from 5th to 14th Sts. NEWS FLASH: Night In Venice will be held on Saturday, July 25th in 2009 starting 7:30 p.m. YARD SALE: Ocean City’s popular City-Wide Yard Sale organized by Main Street’s Marcia Shallcross is set for Sat., Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. till noon. Homeowners throughout the City participate from both their yards and the Tabernacle grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave. To participate call Marcia at 609-398-4662. The cost to have a 10x10 space at the Tabernacle is $25. You can bring your own tables or rent one for $5. City-wide home owners will have their locations listed on a map for a $5 fee.
