Run for the Fallen, Walk for the Wounded

Two events that honor our heroic service personnel are scheduled this week: (Sept. 24) Ocean City hosts THE RUN FOR THE FALLEN on Thursday. This is an organization of runners and their support teams whose mission it is to run one mile for every New Jersey resident in the Armed Forces killed during combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Heading north from Cape May, the runners pause briefly at each mile marker in homage to a specific service member and their family. The military runners will stop at each of the HERO MARKERS where a brief ceremony will take place. The group will stop and stay in Ocean City at the end of the first day. 9/16/15 Corvettes to Roll Into Town on Sunday

(Sept. 20) Over 450 Corvettes will be displayed on the Boardwalk from 6th to 14th Sts. on Sunday starting 11:30 a.m. The autos will date back to the Corvette’s first model in 1953 and include every model to the present. The show is one of the largest in the East with Corvette owners for Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey plus scattered entries from as far away as Ohio, Indiana and Florida. The show is held rain or shine. The cars will gather at the Ocean City Airport, 26th and Bay Ave. between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The Ocean City Humane Society and Food Cupboard will be accepting donations at that location. 9/11 Ceremony, 2 Air Shows, and Car Show this Week

The City will once again remember and honor those who lost their lives during the September 11th attacks of 2001. Over 3,000 people died as the result of the attacks including civilians, fire fighters, first responders and police officers. The program will be held in front of the Fire House at 6th and Asbury Ave. starting 7 p.m. It will begin with the “Striking of the Four Fives” by the Ocean City Fire and Rescue Services. Ocean City Boy Scout Troop 32 will present the colors.  The Flag Salute will be led by Bob Marzulli, Commander of American Legion Post 524 and Clark Manley of the VFW. 8/26/15 Ploppers, Air Shows, Street Rods Coming Soon

Some exciting events and one goofy one are scheduled soon. The goofy one will be first. It's the King and Queen of Plop Pageant set for Friday (Sept. 4th) 11a.m. at the Ninth Street Beach. Contestants are asked to greet the fall season by performing dramatic plops on the beach. Winners will be named The KING AND QUEEN OF PLOP (or Mr. Fall Guy and Miss Fall Gal 2015).
Participants will perform in slow motion to add to the drama and avoid injury. There will be categories in various age groups, male and female. Ribbons will be awarded to category winners. All of a sudden it’s the middle of August and time for the BABY PARADE! The 106th edition is set for Thursday, starting 5:30 p.m. The route is 6th to 12th St. on the Boardwalk. It is the longest continuously running Baby Parade in the world. Didn’t register yet? Entries are being taken the day of the Parade from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sports and Civic Center, 6th and Boardwalk. The Parade is open to children from infants to ten years of age. You will see colorful entries in Kiddie Cars, Coaches, Strollers, Express wagons and floats. Registration is $5 per child. Baby Parade, Weird Contest Week, Art Show Here Soon

Ocean City’s 106th BABY PARADE is set for Thurs., (Aug. 13th ) starting 5:30 p.m. Parade Route is from 6th to12th Streets on the Boardwalk. It is the longest, continually running Baby Parade in the country. Photo engraver, Leo Bamberger, an organizer of Labor Day, founded the Parade in 1909. Children from infants to ten years of age may enter. The colorful event features Divisions of children in fancy decorated Go-carts, Strollers, Coaches, Kiddie Cars, Express Wagons and walking. There is also a Comic Division, Small Floats Division and category for floats entered by businesses and organizations. The Parade is famous for its creative entries. Art of Surfing Returns to Music Pier This Weekend

Ocean City is recognized throughout the country as an outstanding SURFING COMMUNITY. The High School has won over 20 regional championships sponsored by the National Scholastic Surfing Association. Its team has competed several times in the nationals against some of the best surfers in the world including contingents from Hawaii. Many surfing groups hold competitions and fundraisers here. The City accommodates enthusiasts by designating surfing areas at the 7th and 16th St. and Waverly Beaches. There are three shops in Ocean City specializing in surfing, 7th Street Surf Shop, Heritage Surf and Sport Shop and Surfers Supplies.
