What’s Happening in Ocean City

Aug. 31: National Public Radio's popular show "From The Top", hosted by famed pianist, Christopher O’Riley, will tape a broadcast with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra 8 p.m., Wed. Aug. 31 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The show is scheduled as a regular feature of the Pops summer program. Tickets are $20/$15 at the Music Pier Box Office. (609) 525-9248. Aug. 17-19: WEIRD CONTEST WEEK continues with That's The Way The Cookie Crumbles, your opportunity to chew a work of art out of a huge Chocolate Chipper provided by Wards Pastry. The contest begins 11 a.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Entry is free. There are categories for all age groups. Prizes are awarded. Highlight of the morning will be the presentation of the first IMMY Award set for 11 a.m. just before the contest starts. Boardwalk Art Show This Weekend, Baby Parade Aug. 11th

The 49th Annual BOARDWALK ART SHOW is set for Fri. to Sun., Aug. 5-7. Show hours have been extended and are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Arts Center Director, Rosalyn Lifshin says now artists will be able to exhibit in front of thousands of evening visitors. Pottery, handmade furniture and sculpture have been added to the show in addition to oil and acrylics. The exhibit offers visitors an opportunity to purchase outstanding artwork minus gallery commissions. The Boat Parade begins 6:30 p.m. by the Longport Bridge and ends at Tennessee Ave. Optional theme this year is Broadway on the Bay. Entry is free. July 4th Weekend: A giant fireworks display, two colorful bike parades, a Broadway staged performance of Music Man and a Kite Flying Contest will highlight the City’s July 4th weekend events. BARKS ON THE BOARDS, the popular pet walk that raises money for the Ocean City Humane Society, is set for Sun., May 29 from noon till 2 p.m. on the Memorial Day Weekend. The event begins in front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, between 8th and 9th Streets with registration at 11:30 a.m. The Pet Walk provides canines and their best friends a rare opportunity to enjoy the City’s famed ‘walk. Over 500 dogs toured the boardwalk last year. The only other time pets are allowed on the boards is during the Doo Dah Parade in April when over 500 bassets waddle for the benefit of the Tri State Basset Hound Rescue League. Earth Day Program Moved to City Hall Annex During Parade

The City's EARTH DAY CELEBRATION has been moved to the City Hall Annex Parking Lot, 901 Asbury Ave. The date has been changed to Sat., April 16th so that attendees can also enjoy the City’s 26th Annual Doo Dah Parade that will roll by the Annex Parking Lot at noon time. The Earth Day program will be held from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. before, during and after the Parade. It will include environmental displays, Green Giveaways, Children’s activities and entertainment. There is one other change in the Doo Dah Weekend Schedule.
