MS Bike-a-Thon Saturday, Corvette Show on Sunday

(Sept 25) Over 400 CORVETTE cars will be displayed on the Ocean City Boardwalk on Sun., Sept. 25th starting 11:30 a.m. The autos will date back to the Corvette’s first model in 1953 and extend to the present. The show is one of the largest on the East with Corvette owners from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey participating plus entries from as far away as Ohio and Indiana. Registration is held from 8 a.m. till 10 a.m. at the Ocean City Airport, 26th and Bay Ave., on Sunday morning. The Ocean City Humane Society and Food Cupboard will be accepting donations at that location. Two Air Festivals Set For Ocean City This Weekend

(Sept 17-18) Two air shows will be held at this family resort the weekend of September 17-18. Both are free. The 26th Annual Ocean City Airport Festival is set for Sat., Sept. 17 at the Airport, 26th and Bay Ave. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Airport’s grounds will be packed with unusual air planes. There will be an awards ceremony at 2 p.m. for the most outstanding aircraft on display. Highlight of this display will be a rare Mitchell World War II B 25 Bomber that gained fame for its flexibility and durability during that conflict. It was brought to national attention in April of 1942 when General Jimmy Doolittle led 15 B-25’s from the aircraft carrier “Hornet” in America’s first attack on mainland Japan. Street Rods Roll Into City: September 11 Ceremony set for Veterans Park

(Sept 9-11) Street Rod enthusiasts from throughout the East Coast will bring their colorful cars to Ocean City this weekend. They will display their vehicles on the Boardwalk and the 5th Street Parking Lot during the 34th Annual Shore Rod Run. Cars will be parked at the Sports and Civic Center 5th Street Parking Lot starting Friday afternoon Sept. 9th till 1 p.m., Sun., Sept. 11th. There will be a Boardwalk display on Sat., Sept. 10 from noon till 4 p.m. A Street Rod is any car manufactured prior to 1964 that’s been modified with more modern parts. Owners are creative about how they enhance their vehicles and often decorate with colorful, painted designs. Aug. 17-19: WEIRD CONTEST WEEK continues with That's The Way The Cookie Crumbles, your opportunity to chew a work of art out of a huge Chocolate Chipper provided by Wards Pastry. The contest begins 11 a.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Entry is free. There are categories for all age groups. Prizes are awarded. Highlight of the morning will be the presentation of the first IMMY Award set for 11 a.m. just before the contest starts. The IMMY is a Celebration of the Imagination and is given to a person who uses his or her imagination for a good cause. Aug. 31: National Public Radio's popular show "From The Top", hosted by famed pianist, Christopher O’Riley, will tape a broadcast with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra 8 p.m., Wed. Boardwalk Art Show This Weekend, Baby Parade Aug. 11th

The 49th Annual BOARDWALK ART SHOW is set for Fri. to Sun., Aug. 5-7. Show hours have been extended and are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Arts Center Director, Rosalyn Lifshin says now artists will be able to exhibit in front of thousands of evening visitors. Pottery, handmade furniture and sculpture have been added to the show in addition to oil and acrylics. The exhibit offers visitors an opportunity to purchase outstanding artwork minus gallery commissions. Crabby Miss Crustacean About to Claw Her Way Into Ocean City

August 3: The Miss Crustacean Hermit Crab Beauty Pageant, an event eagerly anticipated by crabs and their best friends alike, is set for 1 p.m., Wed., Aug. 3rd at the 6th St. Beach. Entry is free. Registration starts at noon. The contest is sanctioned by NASCRAB, the National Assn. of Crab Activities at the Beach, an Ocean City Organization. Several years ago Ocean City was contacted by Virginia Beach, Va. asking permission to run a similar event and was granted a franchise. Past winners of Miss Crustacean include Crabopatra, an exotic Egyptian Crab, Copa Crabana, a sultry show girl crustacean, Crab Salad, Taxi Crab and Pirates of the Crabibbean. Ferko, Glenn Miller, Philippines Tribute This Weekend

July 21: The World Famous Ferko String Band will perform 8 p.m., Thurs., July 21 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Tickets are $12, available at the Music Pier Box Office, 609-525-9248. Formed in 1922, the Ferko String Band established the most successful record of wins in the history of the Philadelphia Mummers Parade. The Band has strutted away with first place 20 times and placed in the top five an amazing 82 out of 88 parades. Today the Band is as strong as ever with over 90 members ranging from 50 to 80 years of age.
