Craft Show, Ferko, Movie Premier This Week, Night in Venice Next

Some of the most talented artisans on the East Coast will exhibit and sell their unique handiwork at Ocean City's indoor-out door SUMMER ARTS AND CRAFTS Festival on Sat., July 17 at Carey Stadium and the Sports and Civic Center, 6th St. off Boardwalk. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Festival is produced by the South Jersey Artisans Guild, whose previous shows here have set all time attendance records. Crafters will offer an array on unusual specialties including fine art, photography, hand blown glass, wood sun clocks and thermometers, vintage textiles, gourmet teas plus many other products. Ocean City's TRIBUTE TO THE PHILIPPINES will be held this weekend at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Miss NJ is Here, Restaurant Week Starts Sunday

The MISS NEW JERSEY Scholarship Pageant begins today, Thursday June 17, with two preliminaries and the finals on Saturday. Some tickets are available, call Mary Lou Cake, 609-315-1423. The Pageant will be held in the Music Pier Auditorium, all programs begin at 7:30 p.m. Twenty-seven local pageant winners from throughout the State will be vying for the title. The winner goes to Las Vegas in January to compete in the Miss America Pageant. Miss America will be nationally televised by ABC. It’s good to see the pageant back on a network where it belongs. Artisans, Humane Society Golf this Weekend, Miss NJ Next

The ARTISANS Order of Mutual Protection return June 11-13 for its 65th annual weekend in Ocean City. The Artisans are headquartered in Philadelphia and were formed over 100 years ago to provide insurance for working people. On Sat., June 12, the organization will present its annual Miss Artisan Pageant, 8 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. It is during this colorful event that the Artisans select the young lady to represent them for the coming year. There will be entertainment and admission is free and open to the public. FLOWER SHOW: The City will hold its 38th annual Flower Show June 4-6 at the Music Pier at Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. I had been Public Relations Director for less than a year, when businessman and artist, Jim Penland came to my office and said: “Mark, we ought to have a Flower Show.” “You’re right Jim,” I said, “But I don’t know much more than how to cut the grass, how do we have a Flower Show?” “We get the Garden Club to run it for us?” “Oh,” I said, “We have a Garden Club? Heart Walk, Annual Wellness Expo Set for This Weekend

The emphasis will be on health this weekend in Ocean City. The Annual Weekend of Wellness expo is set for May 21 and 22 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace and the American Heart Assn. Walk will be held on Saturday, the 22nd. The HEART ASSN. will include over 500 participants. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Sports and Civic Center, 6th and Boardwalk. The City's Annual CITY WIDE YARD SALE is set for Sat., April 24 from 8 a.m. until noon. There will be table sales at the Tabernacle, 5th and Asbury Ave. and City wide. The sale is held rain or shine. Doo Dah Comedy Show will be a Highlight of Parade Weekend

The DOO DAH PARADE is this Saturday. It starts at noon, 6th and Asbury Ave., goes to 12th and Asbury Ave. and concludes at the Music Pier where there is an awards ceremony and the colorful PieAsco, which is a massive pie smooshing. At 3 p.m., we will present the Doo Dah Comedy Show in the Music Pier Auditorium. This show will be dedicated to Ocean City’s good friend, the late Soupy Sales. It will star legendary comedian, Shelley Berman and impersonators of famous comedians. Soupy’s syndicated TV show was famous for its pie in the face humor with such celebrities as Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. getting plastered.
