September 11th Ceremony, Street Rods This Weekend, Aviation Festival Next

SEPTEMBER 11: Ocean City remembers victims of the September 11th tragedy and celebrates its heroes. The remembrance ceremony begins 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 6th and Wesley Ave. John Divel, Commander of American Legion Post #524 and active in many veterans’ organizations, will be guest speaker. Bagpipe music will be part of the ceremony. In the event of bad weather, the ceremony will be held in the Tabernacle Auditorium across the street. IT’S STREET ROD WEEKEND: Over 300 colorfully modified cars will be on display at the Sports and Civic Center parking lot, 6th St. off Boardwalk, Friday through Sunday (Sept. 11-13). US Navy Country Band to Play Free Concert Sept 27

Country Current, the United States Navy’s Country Band, will be featured in a free concert at the Music Pier on Sun., Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. The popular group has entertained here before to a full house. The talented seven member ensemble has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville Now, the White House and the Wheeling Jamboree. They play all types of country music from contemporary country rock to traditional Blue Grass and Western Swing. Free tickets are available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave. 609-525-9300. About Little Miss Ocean City, Weird Contest Week and More

Last Saturday a new Miss Ocean City was selected at the Music Pier. Dana Piccollo will be taking over for Molly Lavin who was an outstanding Miss Ocean City. On Fri., Aug. 21, a new LITTLE MISS OCEAN CITY will be crowned. Carley Boehning, the reigning Little Miss, will be featured with emcee Ashleigh Udavalos, first runner-up to Miss New Jersey from Millville. Carley, a talented dancer, like her good friend Molly Lavin, has represented the City admirably, attending many events and assisting with our contests. There will be 19 contestants in the 20th Annual Little Miss Ocean City Pageant and it should be a great show. Miss Ocean City Sat., Weird Contest Week Starts Monday!

Five weird contests presented with impeccable taste will be featured in Ocean City Aug. 17-21. Weird Contest Week, whose motto has always been and will always be “Wacky but Not Tacky,” features a series of unusual competitions starting 11 a.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The contests are spread out over five days so as not to over-dose the population in weirdness. Entry is free and there are categories for all age groups. Prizes are awarded. On Mon., Aug. 17 events kick-off with Salt Water Taffy Sculpting. Participants are asked to create works of art from sticky but pliable taffy provided by Shrivers on the Boardwalk. Boardwalk Art Show This Weekend, Baby Parade Aug. 13th

The 46th ANNUAL BOARDWALK ART SHOW is set for this weekend, Aug. 7-9 extending from 8th to 12th Streets on the boards. Several hundred artists from throughout the East coast will exhibit and sell their work. You’ll find outstanding artwork at reasonable prices. This is one of the longest running art shows of its kind in the country and was founded by former Ocean City artist and businessman, James F. Penland at the urging of Dr. Marcia Smith. Ocean City’s 55th Anniversary of Night In Venice 2009 Event Information: Friday, July 24th, 5-9pm, Merchants of Venice Seafood Festival, 6-9th Streets on Asbury Avenue. Admission is FREE with an array of seafood for sale from over 40 vendors, entertainment for children and crafters. Saturday, July 25th, Night in Venice Boat Parade - Starts at 8pm at the Longport Bridge. Boats sail along the bay and in and out of lagoons through 23rd Street. Antique Autos, Pops Opens, Balalaikas This Weekend

Over 300 VINTAGE AUTOS roll into Ocean City on Sat., June 27 for the 53rd Annual Antique Auto Show set for the Tabernacle Grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is followed by a boardwalk parade from 6th to 14th Sts. Admission to the show grounds is free. The event is sponsored by the local chapter of the Antique Automobile Assn. of America and the City. It is directed by David Blyler. It features an array of vehicles from Model A and Model T Fords, antique military vehicles and cars of just about every make and model over 25 years old. Miss NJ This Week, July Jubilee, Magician, Balalaikas Are Next

It’s Pageant Week in Ocean City. Twenty-five area title holders from throughout the State are in town to vie for the Miss New Jersey crown. Programs are set for the Music Pier auditorium, Thurs. through Sat., (June 18-20). The winner will receive over $20,000 in scholarship money and prizes. She’ll compete for the Miss America title in Las Vegas on Jan. 30, 2010. This is the 14th year the event will be held here. There was a Boardwalk Parade last night led by Ashley Fairfield, reigning Miss New Jersey. Preliminaries are set for tonight and Friday with the final on Sat., June 20. Artisans Sponsor Hobo Band Concert on Saturday

The ARTISANS return to Ocean City Friday through Sunday for their 64th Annual Weekend (June 12-14). The organization was founded 136 years ago to provide insurance for working people. The Artisans have been visiting Ocean City longer than any other group. The Lu Lu Temple Shriners are second at 47 years. In addition to providing insurance, The Artisans Order of Mutual Protection supports many charitable causes. On Sat., June 13, the Artisans provide two free shows to the public. The have booked the popular Pitman Hobo Band to perform from 7 to 8 p.m. inside the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.
