Doo Dah Comedy Show will be a Highlight of Parade Weekend

The DOO DAH PARADE is this Saturday. It starts at noon, 6th and Asbury Ave., goes to 12th and Asbury Ave. and concludes at the Music Pier where there is an awards ceremony and the colorful PieAsco, which is a massive pie smooshing. At 3 p.m., we will present the Doo Dah Comedy Show in the Music Pier Auditorium. This show will be dedicated to Ocean City’s good friend, the late Soupy Sales. It will star legendary comedian, Shelley Berman and impersonators of famous comedians. Soupy’s syndicated TV show was famous for its pie in the face humor with such celebrities as Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. getting plastered. So if we’re going to honor Soupy, we obviously must include some smooshing. Costello will smear Abbott to vent his frustration after... Read More

About Boomer, Battle of Bands & DooDah Weekend

In a recent letter to the editor, it was suggested that we honor Boomer, the Basset Hound, in next week's Doo Dah Parade. Boomer, as you may recall, is the basset who wandered into the Bay, struggled in the water and finally was rescued by a heroic boater. The story was widely featured in the media. The Doo Dah Parade has become famous for its basset waddle contingent. Over 500 are scheduled to lope along the Route on April 17 to raise funds for the Tri- State Basset Hound Rescue League. It is a parade within a parade, the second largest gathering of the endearing, sad eyed canines in the country. Featuring Boomer in the event seemed like a good idea. I called the Ocean City Humane Society, where Boomer resides, to... Read More

I was busy and had forgotten that it was time for the Easter Bunny to stop by our office to review our events for the weekend. His name is Fluffy but don’t let the name fool you. He is no-nonsense, all business, and basically egotistical. Fluffy is one of ten rabbits that work the Southern Shore Region at Easter time and the one with the most seniority. That’s why he is assigned to Ocean City. We’re considered the prime holiday location. When a bunny lands here, he or she is considered to have “made it” in the Rabbit World. Our conversation went something like this as he hopped in the door. ME: Fluffy! It’s you! Already! Wow, time flies! FLUFFY: Don’t you keep a calendar? Don’t you know that Easter is just a... Read More

The band consists of professional musicians. The group will play a variety of favorites ranging from the work of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington to contemporary jazz favorites.
