Christmas Parade Friday, Train Show on Weekend – 12/2/15

(Dec. 4) The City’s Annual CHRISTMAS PARADE brings Santa to town in a horse and buggy. The Parade begins 6:30 p.m. Route is from 6th to 11th Sts. on Asbury Ave. Afterwards Santa will be at the Park across from City Hall, 9th and Asbury Ave. He will pose for photos (bring your camera) and hand out treats.

Bands featured in the Parade include the Ocean City High School Marching Band, the Pitman Hobo Band and the Ed Coles Dixieland Band. Among the groups to march are the Ocean City Theatre Co., the Atlantic Shore Babe Ruth All Star Team, the American Legion, Girl Scout Troop 41371, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Cape May County Sherriff’s Dept. Mounted Unit, OCHS Best Buddies International Club, Strathmere Fire Co.,  Jr. Red Raiders Football Team, Miss Middlesex County, Starstruck Dance Academy, 7th St. Surf Shop, Barbizon Modeling, Vittorio’s Restaurant, The Walking Christmas tree and more.

(Dec. 5-6) The Popular JAY EGGLY TRAIN SHOW features a large Garden Railroad Display on the Music Pier Stage and a 30 ft. Lionel display with working accessories in the Solarium. In between there is an array of vendors selling trains, train parts, holiday decorations, railroad memorabilia and more.

Bring your camera. Garden Railroad Club members discuss their elaborate display and show children how to work the controls. The Lionel exhibit features three to four trains running simultaneously past loading platforms and through small towns.

Repairs are made on site by technician Dick Yard for a fee. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sun. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children 12 and under.

(Dec. 5) POSTAL FOOD DRIVE benefits the Ocean City Ecumenical Council Community Food Cupboard. Ocean City Letter Carriers will be collecting non-perishable food items to help fill our local food cupboard. Please leave by your mail box and mail carrier will pick up. You can also drop off food at Ocean City Post Office, 859 Ocean Ave., Mon.-Fri. 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat. 9a.m.-1 p.m. or at Food Cupboard, 501 E. 8th St., Mon.-Fri., 1 p.m.-3p.m.

(Dec. 5) CHRISTMAS TROLLEY TOUR and SING: Join the Ocean City Historical Museum for a Christmas History Trolley Tour led by John Loeper with songs led by Dr. Richard Stanislaw. There will be a stop at the historic Snodgrass home on Central Ave. The tour ends at 17th and Simpson Ave. where visitors will see a new Museum exhibit: “Home for the Holidays, Christmas 1945” and be treated to holiday fare. (Dec. 6) The Ocean City Library’s FREE HOLIDAY FESTIVAL.1-4 p.m., 17th and Simpson Ave.: Santa visits with special gifts for the first 200 people, Live Music, Food, Balloon Sculptures, crafts and more. Call (609) 399-2434 ext. 5222.

(Dec. 11-13) SWINGIN’ INTO THE HOLIDAYS: 2015 spectacular at Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace presented by the Ocean City Theatre Co. A professional group of singers and dancers present an enchanting tribute to the holiday season. Directed and choreographed by Michael Hartman. (Dec. 13) The 65 voice ANGELUS CHORUS with a program of traditional Christmas music at the Ocean City Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave., 3 p.m., directed by Dr. Richard Stanislaw and featuring tenor, John Taylor and the Tapestry String Trio. Admission free, offering received.

(Dec. 18) SWINGIN’ INTO THE HOLIDAYS, a Christmas spectacular by the Ocean City Theatre Co. will be repeated 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier. (See previous item, Dec. 11-13 for show details).

(DEC. 19) ELF JR., THE MUSICAL, presented by the Ocean City Theatre Co., featuring students 3rd to 8th grade at Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Show times 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The adventures of Buddy, a young orphan, who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag and is transported to the North Pole. (Dec. 19) The Ocean City FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY, 17th and Simpson Ave., presents “The Sounds of Christmas,” featuring Ocean City Pops musicians Pamela Whitman on flutes, Mark O’Kain, Xylophone and Marimba and Jeffrey Uhlig, piano. Their music will capture the Spirit of the Season ranging from intimate and meditative to joyous and playful. Concert is 2 p.m., in the Chris Maloney Lecture Hall, admission free.
