Special Christmas Show Set for this Weekend

What’s Happening in Ocean City, NJ 12/14/16

(Dec. 16-17) 2016 HOLIDAY SHOW: The Ocean City Theatre Company will present “A Very Ocean City Christmas” at the Ocean City Tabernacle, 550 Wesley Ave. This will be a high-energy, family-oriented song-and-dance tribute to Christmas. The holiday will come to life with a brand new journey through holiday favorites. New for 2016 are musicians from the Ocean City Pops orchestra, who will join the production.

Professional triple-threat performers from New Your City will be featured in a show choreographed by Michael Hartman and Erika Wasko. With dazzling costumes, familiar songs, toe-tapping numbers and special effects, this extravaganza will kindle the holiday spirit and offer a heart-warming experience for an audience of all ages.

Enjoy this family musical revue on December 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $15 for children (12-and-under). (Dec 17 – 18) BREAKFAST WITH SANTA: 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Arlene’s on Asbury (624 Asbury Avenue) on Saturday, and at Jon & Patty’s Coffee Bar and Bistro (637 Asbury Avenue) on Sunday. This is your last weekend for breakfast with the Big Guy this year. Call 800-BEACH-NJ for complete information. There will be free horse-and-carriage rides in the downtown from noon to 3 p.m. starting in front of City Hall.

(Dec. 17 – 18) Treat your children to PHOTOS WITH SANTA in a lifeboat, on the Boardwalk at 6th Street from noon to 3 p.m., for a $10 fee. (This is Santa’s last weekend on the Boardwalk).

(Dec. 18) TWELVE FLUTES OF CHRISTMAS: A program of delightful holiday music featuring Pamela Whitman, principal flutist of the Ocean City Pops orchestra. This free program is in the Chris Maloney Lecture Hall of the Ocean City Free Public Library, 17th and Simpson, at 2 p.m.

(Dec. 31) FIRST NIGHT CELEBRATION: Our gala New Year’s Eve Celebration capped by fireworks at midnight. A night of family entertainment from 4 p.m. to midnight. Wear your all-inclusive admission button and enjoy the fun.

(Jan. 1) FIRST DAY AT THE BEACH: Featuring first dip in the ocean, a 2 p.m. plunge on the Eighth Street side of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Registration starts at noon. Register and get your Beach Nut certificate. You can also take the HERO plunge/pledge to become a designated driver. For information, call 1-800-BEACH-NJ.

(Jan. 1) FIRST DAY SHOPPING EXTRAVAGANZA: Downtown shopping specials, plus free horse-and-carriage rides, noon to 3 p.m., starting at City Hall.

(Jan. 14) DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CEREMONY: 1 p.m. at the Bill and Nancy Hughes Performing Arts Center at Ocean City High School. Please use the 6th Street entrance. Immediately following the ceremony, stay and enjoy a Soul Food Dinner. A Southern style comfort menu will include fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, collard greens and more. The ceremony was started soon after Dr. King’s assassination by Rozelia Cobb, a teacher at the Ocean City Intermediate School. Her hard work and guidance established the Ocean City ceremony.

(Jan. 16) DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE: You are invited to contribute to a morning of service in Dr. King’s honor. The event consists of a city-wide cleanup from 9 a.m. until noon. Ocean City’s 2017 list of special events is now available on the Ocean City Tourism website: www.oceancityvacation.com. (April 1-2) The OC-CON comic book and memorabilia show will be back for its second year and that proved to be a real and interesting event. That date also marks the return of “Girls Weekend.” (April 8) The Doo Dah Parade and Mr. Mature America Pageant will both be held, so you’ll have the Parade with 500 basset hounds taking off at noon and the Pageant set for 7 p.m. at the Music Pier. (April 15 – 16) Easter weekend. (May 6) Spring Block Party. Mark your calendars for these and other events. Probably the most frequently asked question is “When is Night in Venice?” The answer is July 22, 2017. Amaze your friends that you know the answer.
