Shore Medical Center’s Emergency Department offers the full spectrum of emergency care services ranging from treating an individual for a heart attack to stitches and everything in between. The hospital’s Quick Care Centers—in Somers Point and Egg Harbor Township—offer convenient medical care for common minor illnesses or injuries that aren’t full blown emergencies but are serious enough to require medical attention. Located adjacent to Shore Medical’s Emergency Department, the Somers Point Quick Care Center has eight patient care areas to treat conditions such as sprains, sore throats and fractures. Patients can also have peace of mind knowing that the full resources of the hospital are behind them, should their injury turn out to be more serious. The Egg Harbor Township Quick Care Center, located in Harbor Village Square on the corner of Ocean Heights Avenue and Zion Road, has similar urgent care services and also offers X-ray, EKG and laboratory testing. Should more serious care be required, Shore Medical is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania Health System in the fields of cancer, cardiac and neuroscience care. Shore Medical is also the only CHOP (The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) Connection hospital in New Jersey. Through the CHOP Connection, pediatric and neonatology specialists are available on-site at Shore Medical 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide the highest level of maternity and pediatric care in the region. In 2008, the hospital received accreditation by the Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. Shore Medical’s Neuroscience Center is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. This certification recognizes Shore Medical’s strict adherence to national standards and guidelines that help diagnose and treat stroke patients faster and with better outcomes. The hospital’s Lumbar and Cervical Spine Surgery programs have also earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for healthcare quality by The Joint Commission. Shore Medical is only one of three hospitals in the country to receive this certification. Through the Penn Heart RescueTM Program, heart attack patients can be airlifted to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia for emergency angioplasty. The ultimate goal of this program is to save lives without sacrificing quality of care. Data have shown that patients who receive angioplasty within 90 minutes of arrival at the emergency room lose less heart muscle and have a better chance of survival.
