Canine Bloodmobile Returns - Donor Dogs Needed!

The Bloodmobile from the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania will be at Plaza 9, Marmora, NJ on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 from 3:00 until 7:00 pm. Healthy dogs between the ages of one (1) and six (6) years old who weigh over 55 pounds are eligible to be donors. Each dog is tested to determine blood type and those with the canine “universal” (DEA 1.1 neg.) blood type are eligible to be donors. The test is performed in the sterile and comfortable Penn Animal Blood Bank Bloodmobile and is quick and painless. Owners remain with their dogs during the procedure.

Dogs eligible to donate receive a complete blood and chemical workup at no cost and are entitled to receive blood for the rest of their lives, should they ever need it, in the amount donated. All tested dogs receive a “thank you” from the Bloodmobile staff and the U of P. One unit of blood from a donor dog will be used to save or enhance the life of up to three needy dogs.
