First Night Offers Entertainment for All Ages on New Year's Eve.

Eight hours of entertainment for just $14

OCEAN CITY, N.J. ---- First Night, Ocean City’s New Year’s Eve celebration, provides a variety of entertainment for families and individuals at a reasonable cost.

The holiday gala offers over 70 entertainment programs at nine central locations from 4 p.m. till midnight for just $14. There are fireworks at midnight, weather permitting.

First Night headquarters are located at Downtown Gillian’s, 838B Asbury Ave. The office is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission buttons may be purchased on site, by phone with credit card, 609-391-0060 or by accessing www.firstnightocnj.com.

Opening ceremonies will be held 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The program will feature the Harmony Show Choir, a group of young artists who perform Broadway and Disney show tunes. There will be face painters. Crafters will make holiday hats for visitors.

Rides at Wonderland Amusement Pier, 6th and Boardwalk, will be open to all button holders from 5 to 9 p.m. Inflatables for children will be featured at the Sports and Civic Center from 4 to 8 p.m.

A variety of new entertainment plus perennial favorites are scheduled for the evening. Among those performing at First Night for the first time will be pop super star, Gary U.S. Bonds, renowned rockabilly-folk singers, Trout Fishing In America, Dave Pendleton, one of the nation’s premier ventriloquists, The Johnny and June Cash Experience Tribute Show, Michael Hartman’s ‘Tis The Season Holiday Spectacular, TV comedian, Joel Weintraub, the Norristone DooWop Singers, the Paper Moon Marionettes and the Hegman String Band of Philadelphia. (There is an additional $3 charge for the Gary U.S. Bonds Show.)

Among those returning to First Night are the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, the Fabulous Grease Band, the Give and Take Jugglers, Ted Prior’s El Live Show, the phenomenal young magician, Chad Juros, Smithsonian recording artist and story teller, Jim Albertson, the Bob Ferris Big Band for dancing, the Turtle Singer, Irish Dancers, Barber Shop Singers, Gospel Singers, Andrew Hink, pianist and a team magicians and comedians. (There is an additional $1 charge for Ocean City Pops shows.)

First Night button holders will be able to walk between venues or take free jitneys that run continuously during the evening.

The Ocean City Restaurant Assn. will provide a food court at the High School Cafeteria offering full course dinners, “A Taste of Food from Around the World.” There will be seatings between 4 and 9 p.m. on the hour. Reservations must be made when ordering First Night Admission buttons. Cost is $20 for adults and $8 for the children’s, under 12 years of age.
