OC Schedules September 11th Program at Veterans Memorial Park

Ocean City remembers victims of the September 11th tragedy and celebrates its heroes 11 a.m. on Fri., Sept. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park, 6th and Wesley Ave.

John Divel, Commander of American Legion Post # 524, who has been active in many veterans’ organizations, will be guest speaker. A veteran of the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1955, Divel was a staff sergeant stationed in Japan and Korea as a Medic.

He was employed by the City as a police officer and detective from 1963 until his retirement as a lieutenant in 1998. He has served as commander of numerous area veterans’ groups including the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, the Tri Vets and is a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. ob Marzulli will introduce Commander Divel.

The Ocean City High School Band will play the Star Spangled Banner and Lexis Petrella will sing God Bless America. Veteran Bill Godsell will lead the pledge of allegiance. The Rev. Brian Roberts of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church will give the invocation and Rev. Mark Brussehoff of the St. John’s Lutheran Church will offer the benediction.

There will be remarks by Ocean City School children and the laying of a wreath donated by Spinning Wheel Florists of Ocean City. The program will be closed by the Atlantic City Fire Department Pipe Band playing “Amazing Grace.”

In the event of rain, the service will be held across the street from the Park at the Tabernacle auditorium.
