Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes to Appear in Ocean City

Ocean City will continue their "Second Season" line-up of special events when New Jersey's own Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes visit the Ocean City Music Pier on Saturday, September 19th at 8:00 pm. This show will offer the perfect end of summer celebration with a rollicking night of rock, blues and soul from one of the most popular live acts in the country.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were formed in 1974 by singer John Lyon and guitarist-songwriter "Miami" Steve Van Zant. Van Zant left a few years later to join Southside's Jersey Shore friend, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, but he continued to direct the Jukes, managing them, writing their songs and producing their popular albums.

The group signed with Epic Records and released "I Don't Want to Go Home" in 1976, which featured songwriting by Springsteen and cameos by rock legends Ronnie Spector and Lee Dorsey. The title track from this album remains a highlight of the Jukes' live concerts. In 1977 "This Time It's For Real" was released, containing more Springsteen tunes and appearances by the Coasters, the Drifters and the Five Satins. The following year saw the release of the groups most critically acclaimed album, "Hearts of Stone". With most of the songs written by "Miami" Steve, the record was named one of the top 100 albums of the 70's and 80's by Billboard Magazine.

After more than 20 additional albums, thousands of live performances around the world and a legion of dedicated fans, the Asbury Jukes live shows offer the same thing they always have.a no holds barred good time rock and roll show. Their concerts are legendary, and the source of Southside Johnny's greatest pride: "I'll stack my group up against any group out there. We enjoy playing, and the audience enjoys having a good time. Music is a shared emotion. We distill it down to that."
