Artisans Guild Craft Show Will Attract Crowds on Saturday

(July 27) The popular Jersey Shore ARTISANS GUILD CRAFT SHOW attracts hundreds of visitors to Ocean City. Created by City residents, JoAnne and Norman Schaut, all proceeds from the event are donated to local charities. The one-day show features outstanding crafters, photographers, artists and gourmet food specialists. It will be held at Carey Stadium field and inside the Sports and Civic Center, 6th St. off Boardwalk.

 

Featured artist is Diana Hydock of Freeland, Pa. who specializes in contemporary mixed media, framed collages, clay, paper and Garden Sculptures. Her subjects include shore scenes, animals and flowers.

Visitors will also find unusual crafts such as matching girl and doll dresses, shell art, hand crafted wood/rope chairs, handmade concrete items such as bird baths and benches and beaded wired glass and metal serving pieces. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. An admission fee benefits the Ocean City Food Cupboard, Gilda’s Club of South Jersey and the Atlantic City Rescue Mission. (July 25) Another event that will support local charities is the Ocean City FISHING PIER’S second of three Open Houses set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. This Ocean City institution is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and is generating a lot of positive publicity for Ocean City, most recently in last Sunday’s Philadelphia Inquirer that ran an informative feature story on the Pier.

Visitors will get to tour the Pier, enjoy a beautiful view of the Ocean and visit the Pier’s Club House that is filled with interesting memorabilia from the past hundred years. An optional donation of canned goods will be taken to benefit the Ocean City Food Cupboard.

(July 25) DOROTHY MEETS ALICE, an entertaining children’s show by the Ocean City Theatre Co. is set for 10:30 a.m. at the Moorlyn Family Theatre, Moorlyn Terrace and Boardwalk. Tickets are $10, contact www.moorlynfamilytheatre.org.

(July 29) LEON RUSSEL, American Singer-Songwriter legend began playing piano at the age of four. Worked as pianist for BBKing, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Eric Clapton. By 1970 hit it big as a solo artist with his own brand and style of music and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. Children from 3rd to 8th grade will have the opportunity to build their own puppets that will be featured in a special performance. (On Going) COMMUNITY ARTS PROJECTS (CAP) invites locals and visitors to leave their mark in Ocean City and become a part of the Community Arts Project Installation. LAST MINUTE NEWS: The New Jersey HALL OF FAME MOBILE MUSEUM will be in Ocean City Thursday July 25 through Sunday, July 28 parked on the North Side of the Community Center-Library Complex. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The New Jersey Hall of Fame now honors citizens who have made invaluable contributions to society and the world beyond. Since 2008, 70 notables have people in 15 fields of human endeavor have been inducted including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Toni Morrison, Buzz Aldrin, Frankie Valli, General Norman Schwarzkopf, Tony Bennett, Queen Latifah, Carl Lewis and Yogi Berra. The unit features a slide show about all inductees. The Hall of Fame message to children is that they can strive for excellence beyond their home boundaries.
