IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDERS: Both car drivers and boat captains must refrain from drinking alcohol. The Ocean City Police force will patrol streets and direct traffic. The Bay will be heavily patrolled by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Night In Venice patrol boats.

The Pageant is followed by the rollicking Hermit Crab Races with about 150 crab athletes plodding, creeping and clunking over an 8 ft. plywood oval. A bugler sounds the call to the starting gate, a plastic cake dish cover, before each heat. Heat winners compete in the championship run-off. The winner is declared the King of Klutz.

Divisions include Fancy Decorated Go Carts, Strollers, Coaches, Express Wagons, etc.; Small Children’s Floats (all vehicles including express wagons and baby carriages with tops or sides measuring more than three by five feet) and Commercial and Non- Commercial large floats.

Musical groups include the Pitman Hobo Band, the Interboro High School of Pennsylvania Marching Band, The Atlantic City Bagpipers, the Fred Hall Dixieland Band, the Hype Guards, an award winning Color Guard and the Ed Coles Entertainers.

NOTICE: The Ocean City Ecumenical Council and Ministerium invites Ocean City Congregations to participate in a special offering for funds for the Ocean City Community Food Cupboard the weekend of July 28 and 29. Congregations of many denominations throughout the City will join this summer in offering support for the Cupboard.
The Cupboard is managed by volunteers from the churches. Last year they provided enough food for 24,000 meals for needy families and seniors. Food Certificates were distributed for Thanksgiving and Christmas and over 300 individuals and families screened for real need. The Cupboard serves the poor and hungry of the community. The costs and number of clients continue to escalate. All churches and congregations are invited to join in this crucial effort.
