Ocean City Celebrates a Downtown Christmas on Nov. 24

While the rest of the nation joins the mobs at the malls on “Black Friday,” Ocean City will celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas starting at 2 p.m. on Nov. 24. Christmas in the Downtown will be warm and entertaining time featuring carolers and performers throughout downtown Asbury Avenue between Sixth Street and 11th Street.

Downtown stores will offer discount shopping for gifts, and many Asbury Avenue restaurants will be open. Free horse-and-carriage rides will be available. Entertainment and Christmas carols will begin at 4 p.m. on the steps of City Hall at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue. The event culminates around 5 p.m. when Santa Claus will emerge on the rooftop of City Hall. With the help of an Ocean City Fire Department ladder truck, Santa will descend and help light the City Hall Christmas Tree and illuminate City Hall.

The event is always well-attended by Ocean City residents and visitors, and it’s a unique way to get in the spirit of the holidays. Call 1-800-BEACH-NJ for more information.

The Fast and the Furriest Turkey Trot

A 5K run/walk new course at 5th and the Boardwalk  Thanksgiving morning. Bring your family and friends along to participate in this fun-filled holiday tradition. All proceeds benefit the Ocean City Humane Society. The race begins at the 5th and the Boardwalk and go from 5th to 10th from 10th down to first from first down to 10th and then 10th to 5th at the finish. Following the 5k, there is a 1M fun run for kids 14 and under.  Kids course is from fifth Street to 10th St. and back. T-shirts to pre-registered athletes along with awards and post-race refreshments.

Event schedule and times 

*** Pre-race packet pick-up, Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from 4:00-7:00pm at the senior center,  18th and Simpson. Race morning registration and packet pick up is the civic center, 840 E 6th Street.

Race day registration will be at the Civic Center which lies between fifth and sixth at the boardwalk

Computerized chip timing by DQ Events will be utilized. 

Race Day Registration begins at 7:00 am Thanksgiving morning at the 5th and the Boardwalk.

5K Run/Walk begins at 8:30 am. Kids fun run follows the completion of the 5K.

PLEASE NOTE: Race course was changed due to boardwalk construction. New course this year it goes from 5th to 10th from 10 down to first from first down to 10th and then 10th to 5th at the finish
The 1M Fun Run will be will be from fifth Street to 10th St. and back

For safety reasons, please leave your pet at home.

NEW YORK TRIP TO THE MET (Dec. 7): The Ocean City Arts Center is again sponsoring a bus trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Thursday, Dec. 7. Tickets cost $50 and must be reserved in advance by calling the Arts Center at (609) 399-7628. The bus leaves from the Ocean City Community Center at 7 a.m. and leaves New York at 5:30 p.m.  Admission to the Met is by donation at the door.

‘A CHRISTMAS CAROL, THE BROADWAY MUSICAL’ (Dec. 15-16): Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. But he's forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present and Future. FIRST NIGHT NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION (Dec. 31): Get your FIRST NIGHT ADMISSION BUTTONS NOW! for Ocean City’s gala New Year’s Eve Celebration that provides continuous family entertainment from 4 p.m. until midnight capped by a fireworks display. Buttons are also available at the City Hall Welcome Center, 9th Street and Asbury Ave., or at the Route 52 Welcome Center. After December 15, buttons will be priced at $20.
