Over 400 Corvettes Roll Into Ocean City on Sunday

(Sept. 23) One of the largest Corvette Shows in the country will be held here on Sunday. Over 400 of the popular cars will be displayed on the Boardwalk starting11:30 a.m. The autos will date back to the Corvette’s first model in 1953 and extend to the present.

The show is one of the largest in the East with Corvette owners from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey participating plus scattered entries from as far away as Ohio, Indiana and Florida. The event is held rain or shine.

Registration is from 8 a.m. till 10 a.m. at the Ocean City Airport, 26^th and Bay Ave. The Ocean City Humane Society and Food Cupboard will be accepting donations at that location.

Cars depart for the Boardwalk at approximately 11 a.m. and park there till 4 p.m. The line of Corvettes extends from 7^th to 12^th Streets and beyond on the Boardwalk. There will be a special wedding themed display in front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, featuring Corvettes. The Corvette Club will be headquartered at that location and offer T Shirts for sale.

The Ocean City Humane Society will also have a display in front of the Pier. Volunteers will be selling items and collecting donations to support the award winning, “no kill” shelter. All animals brought to the shelter are either found a home or given one at the Humane Society.

There will be an awards ceremony in front of the Music Pier at 3:30 p.m. Proceeds from registration fees benefit local charities. The show is sponsored by the Boardwalk Corvettes. For information, call the club’s hotline, (609) 457-0081or access www.boardwalkcorvettes.com.

(Sept. 22) Ocean City Board…Walk To Defeat ALS: Registration begins 9 a.m., walk begins 10 a.m. at 6^th St. Practice Field, off 6^th and Boardwalk. (Sept 28) The New Jersey Run For the FALLEN is an organization of runners and support crew whose mission is clear: To run one mile for every New Jersey Service Member killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.

(Sept. 29) Walk for the WOUNDED: A three mile walk to benefit Operation First Response, an organization dedicated to providing financial and emotional support to soldiers returning from overseas. (Sept. 29) MS BIKE-A-THON: Over 7,000 bikers roll into town to raise over $3 million for the Delaware Valley MS Society. This event was founded by TV anchor, Larry Kane, in Ocean City 36 years ago in honor of his mother who died from Multiple Sclerosis. Call (609) 525-9300.

(Sept. 29.) CITY WIDE YARD SALE: This popular event is held at the Tabernacle Grounds, 6^th and Wesley Ave., and at homes throughout town. There will be merchant Table Sales in the downtown, all weekend long, 6^th to 11^th Sts. Call (609) 398-4662 to participate in the sale.

(Sept. 29-30) The Ocean City FINE ARTS LEAGUE, 608 Asbury Ave., will join downtown merchants by holding its Annual Outdoor Gallery Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat. and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 30. It will feature one of a kind, fine artwork created by local artisans at low cost. In addition to the outside gallery, there will be an indoor exhibition featuring “Night Life,” stunning depictions of lights and darkness plus assorted original paintings, pottery, jewelry and prints. THESE ORGANIZATIONS NEED YOUR HELP!: The FALL FOOD DRIVE to benefit the Ecumenical Council’s Food Cupboard is now underway and will conclude on Sept. 21^st. Fill any bag with cans or boxes of non perishable food and place at curb by 7 a.m. on your recycling day, nothing frozen, perishable or in glass.

Most needed items include canned fruit, canned meats, canned potatoes and vegetables, cereal, crackers, dry milk, Hormel Microwave meals, jelly, juice, macaroni and cheese, pasta, peanut butter, pork and beans, ramen noodles, ravioli, rice, Spaghetti O’s, Spaghetti Sauce, teabags and tuna.

The Ocean City COMMUNITY CENTER is holding its annual fundraising event on Fri., Sept 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Café Luciano in Longport. The theme is “Endless Summer.” For tickets and information, call (609) 827-8083.

Ocean City will host the American Red Cross BLOOD DRIVE, on Fri. Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ocean City Civic Center, 6^th and Boardwalk. (Oct. 3) CYSTIC FIBROSIS Foundation hosts its 24^th Annual Golf Tournament at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point with a 7 a.m. Continental Breakfast and 7:30 a.m. Shotgun Start.
