Street Rods Arrive in Time for Smokey Joe's Cafe

(Sept. 6-8) STREET RODS, colorful, classic cars, return to Ocean City this weekend. The vehicles arrive starting Friday at noon and depart Sunday at 1p.m. following an awards ceremony. They will be on display at the Tabernacle Grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave., a new location this year.

On Saturday the Street Rods will be displayed on the Boardwalk from noon till 4 p.m. The Street Rodders will arrive just in time to enjoy Ocean City Theatre Company’s performances of “SMOKEY JOE’S Café, set for Sept. 6-7 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, 7:30 p.m. Call (609) 525-9300 for information.

 

This Pop Music classic by legends Leiber and Stoller features over 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded including Love Potion #9, On Broadway, Downtown, Hound Dog, Stand by Me and more. It is the perfect show for all who enjoy the music of the 60’s and will entertain Street Rodders and autumn visitors alike.

(Sept. 8) The Ocean City Pops presents OUR THREE TENORS, 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier with John Viscardi, William Davenport and Cody Austin. These tenors are great favorites. Tickets are $20 at Music Pier Box Office.

(Sept. 10) Ocean City Pops celebrates PEGGY LLOYD’S 100th Birthday, 7:30 p.m. at Music Pier. Join the Pops and young prodigy violinist, Joseph Hsai, plus soprano Chloe Moore, baritone Steven LaBrie and the Ocean City Community as we celebrate the life and accomplishments of this amazing Ocean City icon. (Sept. 14) The Ocean City AIRPORT FESTIVAL at 26th and Bay Ave., 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It includes ground displays of unusual airplanes. This year highlighting World War ll legends, including the B25J and the Grumman TBM Torpedo Bomber. The Grumman is the type of plane flown by President George Bush when he was shot down. There will also be a banner pick up, an exciting exhibit of remote controlled model airplanes starting at noon, a paper airplane contest for children, antique cars, face painters, Bubble Mania by the Ocean City Board of Realtors and more. ( Sept. 15) Ocean City Pops Violinist, TRACY SILVERMAN, 7:30 p.m., Hughes Performing Arts Center. 6th and Atlantic Ave. Premieres newly commissioned concerto by Kenji Bunch. Lauded by the BBC as “the greatest living exponent of the electric violin” Silverman’s ground breaking work with the 6 string electric violin defies musical boundaries. (Sept. 18) The Ocean City Historical Museum will hold its annual luncheon at The Flanders Hotel, 11th and Boardwalk. Guest speaker is best-selling author of Ocean City History Books, Fred Miller. (Sept. 20) Ocean City hosts a Citywide Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ocean City Sports and Civic Center, 6th and Boardwalk. All residents, groups and businesses are invited to donate. To be eligible to donate through the American Red Cross individuals must be at least 17 years of age, in general good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and have not donated in the last 56 days. Type O donors are especially needed. Appointments for drive are preferred, but not required.
