Interesting events continue at this family resort…

(Dec. 2)  The City’s Annual CHRISTMAS PARADE featuring Santa and holiday hoopla starts 6 p.m. and goes from 6th to 11th Sts. on Asbury Ave. The Hoopla will be provided by the Ocean City High School Band,

Pennsport String Band, and floats from Wonderland, Ocean City Home Bank, Sturdy Savings and Loan plus the Highland Youth Performance  Ensemble Color Guard. Miss Ocean City, Brenna Carnuccio, Junior Miss Ocean City, Kylie Clearkin and Little Miss Ocean City, Cassidy Diamond will also brighten the event.

 

Following the Parade Santa will pose for photos (bring your camera) in the lobby of Stainton’s Square and give treats to the children.

Downtown stores will be open for holiday shopping.

(Dec. 3-4)  The City’s Annual JAY EGGLY TRAIN SHOW is set for the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun. The event serves two purposes. It’s a great place to take children because of large working displays that will be featured. Over 40 vendors will participate, selling trains, train parts, accessories and memorabilia for holiday and year around displays.

The Music Pier stage will feature a working exhibit of Gauge 1 model trains presented by the South Jersey Garden Railroad Society. Children can sit on stage and watch large models pass through colorful exhibits of foliage and forests. The Solarium of the building will highlight a 10 by 30 ft. Lionel display that will include numerous, unique accessories like a sawmill, log loader, cattle pen, etc. with up to five trains running simultaneously.

Repairs will be made on site by technician, Dick Yard.  Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children.

(Dec. 3)--4 p.m., the MESSIAH SING IN featuring the Atlantic Youth Orchestra, other professional musicians and area church choirs will be held at the Ocean City Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave. All are invited for a “Flash Mob” type of event to either sing or listen to an informal inspirational rendition of Handel’s Messiah. (Dec. 3) The Ocean City POPS ORCHESTRA under the direction of Bill Scheible presents its annual Holiday Concert, at the Hughes Performing Arts Center of Ocean City High School, 6th and Atlantic Ave., 7:30 p.m. Call (609) 525-9300 for tickets.

(Dec. 4) American Legion PANCAKE BREAKFAST, Post 524 and Legion Auxiliary from 8 a.m. till noon, 3304 Bay Ave. Adults $5, Children $3.All welcome. Proceeds benefit veteran’s projects.

(Dec. 10) SINDIA DAY at Ocean City Historical Museum, 17th and Simpson Ave. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. See pictures and hear the history about Ocean City’s historic shipwreck.  There will be craft activities for the children. Also see Heritage in QUILTS exhibit on through Dec. 30. The Museum’s 2011-2012 HISTORICAL CALENDER is for sale. Only $8.50. Can ship them for gifts at an additional charge.

(Dec. 16-18) CHRISTMAS WONDERLAND Holiday Spectacular by the Ocean City Theatre Co. at Music Pier. Dazzling show by a cast of professionals directed by Michael Hartman. Tickets range from $12 to $15. Call 609-525-9300.

(Dec. 31)FIRST NIGHT:  Ocean City’s Gala New Year’s Eve. Celebration offers 70 entertainment programs at central locations from 4 p.m. until Midnight capped by fireworks. ADVISORY: The Ocean City Tabernacle will sponsor a bus trip, Thurs., March 22, to Lancaster, Pa. to see the new production developed by Sight and Sound, the Story of Jonah. This spectacular features live animals, a mechanical whale and a cast of over 100 to portray the biblical story.

NEWS from the OCEAN CITY ARTS CENTER, 17TH and Simpson Ave.-call

(609)399-7628 : The Arts Center offers artwork of the nostalgic Ocean City Bridge now being demolished. Water color artist Marie Natalie has provided the Center’s Gift Shop with original paintings, postcards and many different interpretations of the bridge.

The Center will also hold its second Christmas Craft Show on Sat., Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the atrium lobby. Also on Dec. 3 there will be a Craft Workshop for children ages 6-11 from 10 a.m. till noon. Cost is $10 plus $5 for materials. Reserve a place now. Call (609) 399-7628.

NEWS from the Ocean City REPERTORY THEATER, 813 Asbury Ave.: As part of its Young Audience Series it will offer, “The Ever After” fractured fairy tales featuring various notables like Cinderella and what happens in their lives after the traditional tale ends.
