Artisans Visit Ocean City for 67TH Time, Miss New Jersey Next - By Mark Soifer

The ARTISANS Order of Mutual Protection returns to Ocean City for the 67th time this weekend. They hold the record for consecutive visits to Ocean City.The Artisans will present the Miss Artisans Pageant at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace 8 p.m., Sat., June 9. The contest selects the young lady who will represent them for the coming year. There will be entertainment by popular Philadelphia duo, Gary and the Kid. Admission is free. The Public is invited. The Artisans Order of Mutual Protection was founded 139 years ago to provide affordable insurance for working people. The organization also supports many charitable causes. The group’s headquarters is located at 8100 Roosevelt Blvd. in Philadelphia.

(June 13-16.) The Miss New Jersey Pageant returns to Ocean City next week with its Boardwalk Parade on June 13 and the Pageant, June 14-16 at the Music Pier. The Parade begins 7:30 p.m. Its route is from 6th to 14th on the Boardwalk. The event features 25 contestants from throughout the State and will be led by Katharyn Nicolle, reigning Miss New Jersey.Theme of the Parade is “Nursery Rhymes Travel the Boards.” All contestants will ride in convertibles and portray characters in various nursery rhymes. This is a unique and interesting feature instituted by Maribeth Neal, chairperson of the event. The Parade will also include floats, bands and marching groups. Miss Ocean City, Brenna Carnuccio, Junior Miss Ocean City, Kylie Clearkin and Little Miss Ocean City, Cassidy Diamond will ride in the Parade.

Pageant Preliminaries are set for June 14-15 with the final on June 16. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Returning to emcee will be former Miss New Jersey, Dena Blizzard, a popular stand-up comic, who has received national recognition for her humor based on the trials and tribulations of being a mother. She is noted for her hilarious routines and off the cuff remarks. Dena is now performing on a CBS day time show hosted by Anderson Cooper.There will also be production numbers featuring the contestants and an array of guest performers.

(Through June) The Ocean City Repertory Theater will present IT HAD TO BE YOU, a two character madcap comedy that was a hit on Broadway. The play is directed by the Theater’s founder and producing artistic director, Flossi Micciolo. The two character play features Jennifer Johnston as Theda Blau an out of work actress and Yaron Urbas as Vito Pignoli, a producer/director. The show will be held at the theater, 813 Asbury Ave., on the following dates: Fridays, June 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 8 p.m., Saturdays, June 9, 23 and 30 at 8 p.m. and Sundays, June 10, 17, and 24 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.
