FOURTH OF JULY EVENTS, THE BACON BROTHERS AND MORE TO COME!

Here’s a quick recap of 4th of July events: The North End Garden Civic Assn. BIKE PARADE starts at the Longport Bridge Parking Lot. Registration is 9 a.m., parade at 10 a.m. The South Ocean City Assn. BIKE PARADE, registration 9 a.m. at 40th and Asbury Ave., Parade starts 10 a.m. at 40th and Central Ave. KITE Flying Contest by Air Circus, registration 6 p.m. starts at the 9th St. Beach. Prizes for Most Patriotic, Largest, Smallest, Youngest Flyer, Highest Flying, Best Homemade, Best Stunt Flyer, Oldest Flyer.  Yo Yo Demonstration and Contest 7 p.m. and Hula Hoop contest for all ages at 7:30 p.m., same location. NIGHT IN VENICE Reminder: Night In Venice is set for Sat., July 28 starting 7 p.m. The Parade begins at the Longport Bridge and concludes at Bay and Tennessee Aves. Grand Marshal will be Ocean City’s Dick Richards, just inducted into the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame as one of the original members of Bill Haley’s Comets. All boaters who enter will receive a $50 gas or decorating card and a photo of their entry in the Parade. They will also receive a commemorative mug illustrating both the old bridge and new super span. This will be the City’s official keepsake of the historic construction and a collector’s item. Homeowners who enter will also receive the mug. There will be prizes awarded in both the boat and home divisions.

Our Monday Night CONCERT SERIES starts July 9th with the BACON BROTHERS featuring film star and talented musician, Kevin Bacon and brother, Michael, composer, songwriter. The Brothers will perform their original work, 8 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Tickets are available at the Music Pier Box Office, 609-525-9248 or from tickemaster.com.

On July 16 ARLO GUTHRIE and family will present a tribute to Woody Guthrie, the legendary folk singer and author of This Land Is Your Land. Arlo is a great entertainer and songwriter and hopefully he’ll perform “Alice’s Restaurant,” a classic example of the Talking Blues. Tickets available at the same locations mentioned above.

The series continues on July 23 with Get the Led Out, a tribute to Led Zeppelin;  July 24 with Bruce Hornsby; July 30 Charlie Thomas and the Drifters; Aug. 6, The Machine, a tribute to Pink Floyd; Aug. 20, Little Feat and Aug. 27, Mitch Ryder.`

(July 6) The SAM ROBB Memorial Beach 5K and Fun Run, 5 p.m. at the 40th St. Beach benefits a fund to Cure Childhood Cancer. The Sam Robb Fund supports a pediatric research fellow in oncology. Cure Childhood Cancer is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through funding target research and support of patients and families. (July 6)  Ocean City’s red hot Nor’ Easter’s Soccer Team hosts the New Jersey Rangers, 7 p.m at Carey Stadium, 6th and Atlantic Ave. Half time events include a continuation of the July 4th Celebration, celebrate American Independence with the Nor’easters. (July 9) ALEXANDER and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day-10:30 a.m. at the Music Pier. Everybody has bad days, but this one is something special. In this delightful adaptation of her popular book, Judith Viorst sets Alexander’s rather trying life to music and brings to the stage one of America’s feistiest characters. (July. 11th) The First SAND SCULPTING Contest of the Season. The City celebrates 40 years of Sand Sculpting at the 6th Street Beach, starting 9 a.m. There are categories for all age groups: 5 and under, 6-8, 9-12, Adults and Families. Admission in the contest is free. Participants should bring buckets, shovels and their imaginations. Non-participants welcome to take photographs and enjoy a variety of mermaids, castles, animals and etceteras emerge from the sand. Best time to take photos about 10:30 a.m.

(July 11) The Ocean City Pops presents AMERICAN TRIBUTE! Celebrate our great American patriotic tunes, Sousa marches and a tribute to our veterans. Also featuring baritone Neil Nelson capped by an audience favorite, the 1812 Overture. (July 14) MISS CAPE MAY County/ Miss Cape Resort Scholarship Pageant, 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, $20 at the door. Winners go on to compete for the Miss New Jersey title in June 2013 at the Music Pier.
