What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ

What's Happening in Ocean City

Never has our INDIAN SUMMER WEEKEND been packed with so much to do! In addition to the Mile Long Block Party on Saturday, Oct. 10, a huge FIREWORKS DISPLAY has been set for Saturday evening preceded by entertainment. There will be shows at the Music Pier and Tabernacle, a seafood center at the Music Pier, Boardwalk table sales and downtown merchants will hold a sidewalk sale on Sunday.

There will be FREE PARKING at 5TH and West next to the Fire House, free parking at the Transportation Center, 10th and Haven Ave. in back of McDonalds and all Municipal Lots and parking meters will be free.

We suggest entering the City by 34th St. or the Longport Bridges because of one lane traffic both ways on part of the 9th St. Causeway. There will be police on duty by the 9th St. Bridge area to keep traffic moving which should be a big help. Also keep in mind that there will be no jitney service from the airport this year as the Retail Merchants Assn. has found its use has been minimal during recent block parties.

Friday, October 9th there will be TABLE SALES on the Boardwalk.

In the evening, the legendary band SURVIVOR whose hits include Eye of the Tiger will perform in the Music Pier auditorium, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The show starts 8 p.m. Tickets are available at City Annex, call 609-525-9300 or online at www.ocnj.us. All proceeds benefit Ocean City school district students.

Saturday, October 10th our MILE LONG BLOCK PARTY is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 5th to 14th Streets on Asbury Ave. Over 400 crafters will be featured. And lots of food!

There will be live music starting 11 a.m. and continuing to 4 p.m. and free pony rides on the Tabernacle grounds. First Night admission buttons will be available during the block party at a table near City Hall steps. First Night offers over 60 entertainment programs at central locations and concludes with fireworks at midnight. Tickets are an economical $14 per person. There is an angel fund for those who cannot afford tickets, call 609-525-9300.

The SEAFOOD CENTER will be open at the Music Pier, Sat. through Mon, Oct. 10-12 starting at 11 a.m. till after dinner. It may stay open later on Saturday to accommodate folks coming to the fireworks.

THE FIREWORKS display is set for 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 and promises to be as good as or even more extensive than our 4th of July Fireworks. The fireworks will be fired form a barge off the 9th Street Beach. WIBBAGE 94.3 FM will broadcast music to accompany show.

Entertainment Saturday on the boardwalk prior to the fireworks begins 6:30 p.m. and includes a string band and two strolling bands between 6th and 14th Sts. There will also be a magician, Karaoke and pony rides.

THE WORLD FAMOUS SHAOLIN WARRIORS, direct from China's legendary Shaolin Temple, will perform at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.10. This is a unique production. One you will seldom have to opportunity to see brought to us by Stockton State College. It's a fully choreographed theatrical production by the remarkable masters of Kung Fu, the Shaolin monks. The monks train for hours every day perfecting the art of hand to hand and weapons combat. The result is a unique display of stunning movement and imagery. Each monk is required to achieve an extraordinary high level of proficiency in all of the Temple's 18 traditional weapons and to become a master of one. It's an amazing show. Tickets are $35 for all seats. Visit www.stockton.edu/pac or call 609-525-9300.

Also on Saturday evening at 7 p.m., the Ocean City Tabernacle will present a Block Party Night Concert featuring recording artist, DAVE BOYER with ballads and hymns in a mellow style.
