What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ

Numerous events are scheduled this week plus the rescheduled WALK FOR THE WOUNDED which will be held on Sat., Oct. 31. The event raises funds through Operation First Response to assist wounded soldiers and their families. The walk begins at 12:30 p.m., registration starts at 11am at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Enjoy food, ceremonies, music and a 3 mile stroll on the boardwalk. WELCOME NIGHT: The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce will host Welcome Night on Wed., Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Music Pier. Admission is free and all area residents are welcome to attend. The event introduces new and current residents to community, civic, social organizations, community leaders, and civic officials as well as local businesses including restaurants, financial and insurance services, retail stores and medical facilities. The City’s colorful HALLOWEEN PARADE is set for Thurs., Oct. 29 starting 7:15 p.m. Route is from 6th to 11th Sts. on Asbury Ave. This is the 62nd annual march sponsored by the Ocean City Exchange Club in cooperation with the City. There will be costumed characters, floats, bands with NBC 40 Meteorologist, Dan Skeldon, as grand marshal. Late entries in the costume competition may register Thursday starting 6:30 p.m. at 6th and Asbury Ave. Bring canned food to the Parade. Boy Scouts will collect your donation for the Ocean City Food Cupboard.

TRICK OR TREAT FAMILY NIGHT will be held on Fri., Oct. 30 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Music Pier. Note:7 p.m. is the CORRECT STARTING TIME. Program includes a puppet show featuring Candy and Cupcake, the magic of Brian Richards and a book swap (bring one, get one free). Shriver’s and Ward’s Pastries will provide refreshments. Admissions is $3, maximum $10 per family.

THE OCEAN CITY REPERTORY THEATER is offering a Kid Friendly Haunted House Friday and Saturday at 908 Asbury Ave. in the Denovum Building across the Street from City Hall Annex from 4 to 7 p.m. It’s a well lit, less scary trick or treat tour. Dressing up is not mandatory but encouraged. Admission is $5. There will be Goblin Gift bags for all children. Call 609-231-3263. The Theater has also scheduled an Evening of Mystery and Suspense, 7 p.m., Oct. 30 at 908 Asbury Ave. There will be dramatic readings of the works of Edgar Allen Poe and others. Admission is $10, dessert is included.

FREE CONCERT ON SUNDAY! THE COMMODORES, the United States Navy’s premier jazz-big band ensemble, will be featured in a free concert at the Ocean City Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave., on Sun., Nov.1 at 2 p.m. Free tickets are available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., today and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., call 609-525-9300. Tickets may also be picked up at the Tabernacle. Those without tickets will be admitted ten minutes before the concert if seats are available.
