New Features of our Doo Dah-Earth Day Celebration

Every recurring event should have new features, right? Keeps it interesting. Gives you something to put on My Space or to twitter about. I don’t have a My Space nor do I know how to twitter. When I first heard about twittering I thought it was “for the birds.” But millions of people now twitter and this column will give them material in case they run short. Even if you don’t twitter, this will be useful for emailing, blogging or just plain casual conversation. First of all you should tell your friends that there will be over 500 basset hounds waddling in the Doo Dah Parade. This is not new. But it’s astounding. Then there’s a bunch of new brigades. On Saturday, you can expect dogs to dance, jump through hoops, sing, (well sorta make a noise that sounds like singing) and many that will roll over and over. Then there are those who will completely ignore fervent requests to perform because they are interested in... Read More

Major Charity Craft Show This Weekend. Easter Is Next.

During times when local charities need it the most, Norman and JoAnne Schaut of the Jersey Shore Artisans Guild are doing more than their part. The Schauts of Ocean City produce huge, highly attended craft festivals here. All profits from these shows go to non-profit groups that assist the needy. Over $90,000 has been donated to the Ocean City Food Cupboard and Clothes Closet. This amount will exceed $100,000 after the Schaut’s upcoming show at the Music Pier April 4-5. Other charities that receive substantial support include the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Alex’s Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer Research and the Atlantic Riding Center for Handicapped Children. “The Craft Show financial gifts are the largest single source of income that we receive,” said Ecumenical Council Treasurer,... Read More
