Easter Weekend Events set for Ocean City; Humane Society News

Following is a schedule of Easter Weekend Events in Ocean City. (Sat., April 7) Woofin’ Paws Pet Fashion Show, 11 a.m., Carey Stadium, 6th St. off Boardwalk. Pets compete in various categories including Best Dressed, Best Bonnet, Best Tail Wagger, Best Bathing Suit, Most Patriotic, Pet-owner Look-Alike and Intelligent Pet Tricks. A $5 entry fee benefits the Ocean City Humane Society, a No Kill Shelter. Spectator admission is free but visitors may make a donation to benefit the Society if they so choose. Best of Show wins the Dean Schofield Woofin’ Paws Plaque for Perfection, named after the late Dean Schofield who was a volunteer member of the Ocean City Public Relations Staff for many years. New Book by Local Author Spreads Message of Hope to Children

While on extended bed rest with her second set of twins, Kelley Osborne Faust of Ocean City had plenty of time to think. It was a trying time. But a strong determination to meet her challenges and support of family and friends pulled her through. “I realized that facing these challenges, we can either feel sorry for ourselves or deal with the accompanying pain,” she said. “Fortunately I learned from the challenges and moved on. I found that sharing my experiences with others made me realize that I was not alone. Canine Celebrity and Best Friend to be Honored at Doo Dah Parade

Guided by Karen Quigley of Sewell, the Chinese crested Chihuahua mix has made appearances at hundreds of gatherings projecting a simple message: “You don’t have to be beautiful to be loveable.” The story begins when Karen rescues Elwood from his breeder who can find no buyers for the puppy. The Chihuahua is endowed with a seemingly endless tongue, long pointy ears, virtually no fur and sports what most resembles a Mohawk haircut. But his personality is sweet and he is very loveable. Basset Hounds Love Doo Dah; Valentine Shows Set For This Weekend – By Mark Soifer, Ocean City Publicist

For the 11th consecutive year The Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue League will hold its Boardwalk Waddle as part of the Doo Dah Parade set for Sat., April 14. This is one of the largest aggregations of the floppy eared canines in the United States. Over 600 navigate the downtown and Boardwalk, many in costume. It is a pawesome spectacle! But that’s not all. On Fri. April 13, the Rescue League will stage its Basset Hound Olympics at 1 p.m. on the Tabernacle Grounds, 6th and Asbury Ave. This is a hilarious competition well worth seeing if you can take off from work without getting fired. DOO DAH GRAND MARSHAL NAMED; VALENTINE PROGRAMS SET The Grand Marshal of the Ocean City Doo Dah Parade on April 14 will be Chuck McCann, who has conquered every medium in the entertainment industry, starring in film, television, recordings, stage and as a man of many voices in the world of animation and commercials. McCann, 77, is still active today. He will appear in a comedy show during Doo Dah Weekend honoring the late Soupy Sales, who attended many Doo Dah events in Ocean City. He and Soupy were good friends.
