Car Shows and Pops Concert Highlight Ocean City Weekend

What’s Happening in Ocean City, NJ 9/7/22

Street rods and other classic cars will be on display on the Ocean City Boardwalk during the annual Street Rod Show on Saturday, Sept. 10. Street rods are classic cars (1992 or older) modified with modern parts. On Sunday, Sept. 11, it will be all Corvettes taking the spotlight.

On Saturday, classic cars and street rods will be displayed in the municipal parking lot at Fifth Street and Boardwalk from 8 a.m. to noon and will then proceed to the Ocean City Boardwalk to be displayed until 4 p.m. An awards ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 10) in front of the Music Pier (at Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace). Registration to participate is still open with forms available. Day-of registration will be open until 11 a.m. at the parking lot.

More than 350 cars from throughout the history of Corvettes will be on display in one of the largest shows of its kind on the East Coast. The cars will be on the boardwalk between Sixth Street and 14th Street from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 11). For more information, call 609-457-0081 or visit boardwalkcorvettesac.com.

As part of the weekend festivities, tickets are on sale now for a Saturday night concert (Sept. 10) with the Ocean City Pops presenting “Rock & Radio.” The evening of music features some of the biggest pop songs of all time. The audience will groove to more than eight decades of chart-topping hits from the greatest names in contemporary music history, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King, Aretha Franklin, the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Adele and more. Ocean City’s annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday outside the Ocean City Fire Department headquarters (550 Asbury Avenue), where a 9/11 memorial sculpture is on display. “A Day to Remember” will include music, prayer and reflections on the memory of lives lost and on the community spirit that was renewed in the years since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. All are encouraged to attend.

Ocean City Walk to Defeat ALS (Sept. 17): Two-mile walk raises funds to support patient services and research.  Registration opens at 9 a.m. and walk starts at 10 a.m. Call 215-664-4143 or visit www.oceancitywalktodefeatals.org.

Ocean City Airport Festival (Sept. 17): Annual festival at the Municipal Airport (26th and Bay Ave.) features a ground display of unusual and classic airplanes and a parachute jump from Team Fastrax. Festival runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ocean City Pops Presents Maestro Vince Lee at the Keys (Sept. 17): The Ocean City Pops ends the 2022 season with Maestro Vince Lee leading the Pops in a jam-packed lineup of piano favorites. Tickets available at oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice or 609-399-6111.

Parachute Pyrotechnic Show (Sept. 17): An 8 p.m. show includes the Team Fastrax parachute team creating a dazzling display of lights and pyrotechnics for spectators on the ground. The show is viewable along the entire Boardwalk with the landing area on the beach at Seventh Street.

Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow (Sept. 18): Some of the best stunt pilots and aerobatic champions in the world put on a display starting at 1 p.m. and best viewed from the beach and boardwalk from Fifth Street to 14th Street.
