The OCEAN CITY POPS continue to provide outstanding concerts through August and September. On Sunday (Aug. 23) the Orchestra presents NIGHT AT THE OPERA when three thrilling singers join the Pops for an evening of wonderful arias and duets from the world of great opera. (Aug. 20) The Friends of the OCEAN CITY POPS will be “Puttin’on the Ritz” at their 26th Annual Summer Luncheon at Greate Bay Country Club at 11:30 a.m. Gift baskets, door prizes and silent auction items will be plentiful because of the generous donations of local businesses. Miranda Schumaker, 1st place vocal winner in this year’s Esther Weil Student Competition and Lugi Mazzocchi, concert master of the Pops Orchestra, will be the featured entertainment. (Aug. 22) ONCE UPON A MATTRESS: Michael Hartman’s Greater Ocean City Theatre Company created their junior company to enhance theatre education in the Greater Ocean City region. Students with an interest in theatre, dance and music from schools across the Delaware Valley audition to be a member of the prestigious OCTC Junior Company.
The 6th to 9th Grade members of the Junior Company will present Once Upon a Mattress (Getting to Know Version) at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The comic musical fable is adapted from “The Princess and the Pea” fairy tale. Prince Dauntless wishes to marry, but his picky mother, Queen Aggravain, insists she must first pass her arduous test. (Aug. 26) THE BOSTON BRASS returns to the Music Pier. The ensemble’s lively humor and personality attempts to bridge the ocean of classical formality to delight audiences for an evening of music and boisterous fun. (The Ocean City Pops will not play.) This program is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Cape May County Culture and Heritage Commission, from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. (Aug. 30) OC POPS – Standing in the Shadow of MOTOWN LIVE! Featuring four singers and James Jamerson, Jr. on the Fender Bass. (Sept. 4th) THE KING AND QUEEN OF PLOP: Ocean City’s unique way of greeting the fall season. Also known as the Mr. Fall Guy and Miss Fall Gal Pageant. Contestants are asked to celebrate the fall, always a lovely time of year, by falling dramatically and in slow motion to the sand. The emphasis is on slow motion as we don’t want anyone to be injured greeting a season or any other time. Those performing the most dramatic renditions will be designated the King and Queen of Plop. (Sept. 12) STREET ROD WEEKEND: This popular rally, that features modified classic cars on display, will celebrate its 41st year in Ocean City with a boardwalk exhibition from noon to 4 p.m. Many of the vehicles are enhanced by artwork. (Sept. 12) OCEAN CITY AIRPORT FESTIVAL: For over 25 years this popular event has entertained and thrilled visitors. It features ground displays of unusual airplanes ranging from World War 11 aircraft to War Birds plus an exciting model airplane exhibit with jet miniatures travelling over 100 miles an hour, a Banner Pick-Up, Paper Airplane Contest for children and much more. (Sept. 14) 20th Annual SUNSHINE FOUNDATION GOLF CLASSIC: It benefits the Foundation which for 38 years has granted the wishes of over 37,000 seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children. FUNTASTIC TUESDAYS: Held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Asbury Avenue features free balloon sculptors, face painters, fun for the entire family. Also, there are 100 fine specialty stores to investigate. Plus numerous restaurants in the downtown where you can have breakfast or lunch while enjoying the free stuff.
MUMMERS NIGHT: Also on Tuesdays, enjoy Mummers Night on the Boardwalk, with String Bands strutting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Enjoy a great evening on Ocean City’s Award Winning Boardwalk. Sponsored by Shriver’s, Ocean Paradise, Prep’s Pizza, and Henry’s.
BEACH WALKS: Also on Tuesdays and Wednesdays take an informative and pleasant guided beach walk for a nominal price. Walk starts at South End Location, 59th and Central Ave. at the entrance to Corson’s Park, Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. There’s a Walk from the north end starting at the Longport Bridge Parking lot (Gardens Parkway) Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Tickets are available on site, Adults $1, Children 50 cents.
FARMERS MARKET: Held at Tabernacle Grounds every Wednesday with crafters on Asbury Ave. at 6th St., 8 a.m.-1 p.m. You can stroll free and buy stuff at economical prices now through Sept. 9th.
MARKET DAYS: Every Thursday through  the end of August on Asbury Ave. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Includes free entertainment (magicians, etc.) free face painters and balloon sculptors plus free pony rides for the kids at the Tabernacle, 6th and Asbury Ave.
HISTORIC AND INN-TO-INN TOURS: presented by the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers of Ocean City are every Thursday in July and August from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.  Tickets are $14 per person, which includes transportation by trolley and a guided tour.  Catch the trolley at the Ticket Booth located at the 7th Street and Central Avenue parking lot (metered parking is available).  Tickets are available at the Welcome Center on the Rt.52 Causeway and at the ticket booth.  Each tour is different and includes an excursion to four different historic locations which may include inns, the Historic Flanders Hotel, the Historic Ocean City Lifesaving Station, the Ocean City Historical Museum, or a Beachwalk and a sightseeing tour of the City’s historic district. For more information, please call 609-399-1412 or visit on the internet at
