It’s a Pageant Week in Ocean City … for Humans and Hermit Crabs

What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 8/15/18 Miss Crustacean, Little Miss Ocean City, Junior Miss Ocean City All to be Crowned Congratulations to our new Miss Ocean City, 19-year-old Megan Keenan, who was crowned Saturday on the Ocean City Music Pier. Another week of pageantry in Ocean City includes the Miss Crustacean Beauty Pageant on Wednesday, the Little Miss Ocean City Pageant on Friday and the Junior Miss Ocean City Pageant on Saturday. The original beauty contest for crustaceans returns as an evening event this year. In an annual tradition, Ocean City celebrates the beauty of hermit crabs with contestants vying for the coveted Cucumber Rind Cup. Baby Parade Rolls Down Boardwalk for 109th Year on Thursday

What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 8/8/18 Pamper Scamper, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and Miss Ocean City Pageant add to a Week of Family Fun in Ocean City For its 109th year, the Ocean City Baby Parade returns as a morning event. The 2018 parade will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 9. The annual tradition offers a chance for parents to show off Ocean City’s newest generation. The parade features children cruising the Ocean City Boardwalk in themed strollers, wagons and floats. It starts at Sixth Street with children finishing at 12th Street and all other entries continuing to 14th Street. The parade is free to watch from either side of the boardwalk. What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 8/1/18 Boardwalk Art Show, Pops Concerts, Twins Contest This Week For its 109th year, the Ocean City Baby Parade returns as a morning event. The 2018 parade will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 9. Registration is open to anybody who wants to participate in the parade, which features children ages 10 and under. For an online entry form and more information, visit ocnj.us/babyparade. Participants also can sign up at the Welcome Center on the ground floor of City Hall at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue. What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 7/24/18 The annual event takes place on Saturday, July 28 Ocean City’s 64th annual Night in Venice celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday (July 28, 2018). The boat parade and decorated bayfront home contest provides a chance to be part of the highlight of the summer season in Ocean City. Thousands of spectators line the bayfront, and thousands more attend private parties at homes along the route from the Ocean City-Longport Bridge to Tennessee Avenue. What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 7/11/18 Annual Bike Auction Is Set for Monday, July 16 The Philadelphia Flyers Community Caravan will roll into town on Thursday (July 12) and give the community a chance to meet former stars, including Bernie Parent, Larry Goodenough and Bob Kelly. The free event is open to the public and part of a multi-stop family-fun series developed to promote the sport of hockey and support active lifestyles for youth across the region. What's Happening in Ocean City, NJ 7/2/18 Summer Kicks Into High Gear in Ocean City Ocean City’s Independence Day celebration will take place on Wednesday, July 4, and include bike parades, music, family contests and fireworks to cap off the summer holiday. The fireworks will be launched from a barge in the ocean off Ninth Street at 9 p.m. and will be best viewed from the beach and boardwalk between Fifth Street and 14th Street. The fun starts with two bike parades at opposite ends of the island. Everybody is invited to participate, and thousands usually do. Both parades start at 10 a.m., and organizers encourage riders to dress themselves and their bicycles in the spirit of the holiday. Farmers Market and Wacky Wednesdays start on June 27

Tickets are on sale now for the season-opening performance of the Ocean City Pops featuring Megan Hilty. The show is at 7:30 p.m. July 2 at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Hilty is famous for her portrayal of Ivy Lynn in NBC’s musical drama “Smash.” A native of Seattle, Hilty moved to New York City after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University and quickly made her Broadway debut as Glinda in “Wicked.”  She went on to perform the role in both the national tour and in Los Angeles. She followed up the series with a starring role on the NBC comedy “Sean Saves the World.”
