Interesting events continue at this family resort… (Dec. 2)  The City’s Annual CHRISTMAS PARADE featuring Santa and holiday hoopla starts 6 p.m. and goes from 6th to 11thSts. on Asbury Ave. The Hoopla will be provided by the Ocean City High School Band, Pennsport String Band, and floats from Wonderland, Ocean City Home Bank, Sturdy Savings Bank, plus the Highland Youth Performance  Ensemble Color Guard. MissOceanCity, Brenna Carnuccio, Junior Miss Ocean City, Kylie Clearkin and Little Miss Ocean City, Cassidy Diamond will also brighten the event. Following the Parade Santa will pose for photos (bring your camera) in the lobby of Stainton’s Square and give treats to the children. Downtown stores will be open for holiday shopping. Ocean City will welcome the fall season with yet another Wacky But Not Tacky Contest, The King and Queen of Plop on Friday, Sept. 2. (Aug. 31) But before we get to that we should report that National Public Radio’s popular Show, “FROM THE TOP,” hosted by famed pianist, Christopher O’Reilly will tape a broadcast with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, today, 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The show is scheduled as a regular feature of the Pops’ summer schedule. It will showcase outstanding young musicians from throughout the country and be broadcast on 250 NPR stations to more than 700,000 listeners. City to Celebrate Fourth of July with Bike Parades, Music and More

July 4th Weekend: A giant fireworks display, two colorful bike parades, a Broadway staged performance of Music Man and a Kite Flying Contest will highlight the City’s July 4th weekend events. The weekend kicks off on Sun., July 3 with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra and the Ocean City Theatre Company presenting theMusic Man. REMINDER: The Miss New Jersey Parade will be held on Wed., June 15 starting 7 p.m. Route will be 6th to 14th Sts. on the Boardwalk. (June 16-18) Twenty-three title holders from throughout the State will compete for the MISS NEW JERSEY crown, June 16-18. The Pageant will be held in the Music Pier Auditorium, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, with shows starting at 7:30 p.m. The winner of the Miss New Jersey Pageant will vie for the Miss America crown this coming January in Las Vegas. MEADOWLARK’S PARTING SHOT, UPDATE ON EASTER EVENTS

Despite the weather, we were able to sandwich in the Doo Dah Parade between a morning drizzle and late afternoon rain storm. (Thank you Dean Schofield.) It was a windy event, to say the least but that didn’t stop the marchers or affect the enthusiasm of our PieAscoites who plastered each other in front of the Music Pier as a tribute to Soupy Sales. Meadowlark Lemon was a gracious grand marshal. He was accompanied in the Parade by a band playing Sweet Georgia Brown, the theme song of Meadowlark’s Harlem Globe Trotters. Meadowlark ended the day at the Tabernacle Youth Center where he presented an inspirational talk to a mixed audience of children and adults. Earth Day Program Moved to City Hall Annex During Parade

The City's EARTH DAY CELEBRATION has been moved to the City Hall Annex Parking Lot, 901 Asbury Ave. The date has been changed to Sat., April 16th so that attendees can also enjoy the City’s 26th Annual Doo Dah Parade that will roll by the Annex Parking Lot at noon time. The Earth Day program will be held from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. before, during and after the Parade. It will include environmental displays, Green Giveaways, Children’s activities and entertainment. There is one other change in the Doo Dah Weekend Schedule.
