Pink Field, Humane Society Festival, Dog of Year This Weekend

Before we cover this weekend, here are events that have been rescheduled because of last weekend’s storm: WALK FOR THE WOUNDED will be held on Sat., Oct. 31. The event raises funds through Operation First Response to assist wounded soldiers and their families. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the walk begins 12:30 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Special guest will be Tracey Davidson of NBC 10. Enjoy food, ceremonies, music and a 3 mile stroll on the Boardwalk. Raise $50 and receive a free, long sleeve T Shirt. Ocean City Home Bank is major sponsor. Events Keep Rolling On Through Fall in Ocean City

Last weekend’s Indian Summer Weekend was a great event. And there’s much more to come in the weeks ahead. HALLOWEEN EVENTS begin this Sat. and Sun., Oct. 17 and 18 on the Boardwalk. There will be free hayrides from noon till 4 pm. Passengers may get on and off at 8th and 12th Sts. There will be free pumpkins, face painting and Trick or Treating. Block Party, Fireworks, Entertainment and More This Weekend

Never has our INDIAN SUMMER WEEKEND been packed with so much to do! In addition to the Mile Long Block Party on Saturday, a huge fireworks display has been set for Saturday evening preceded by entertainment. There will be shows at the Music Pier and Tabernacle, a seafood center at the Music Pier, Boardwalk table sales and downtown merchants will hold a sidewalk sale on Sunday. There will be FREE PARKING AT 5TH and Asbury next to the Fire House, free parking at the Transportation Center, 10th and Haven Ave. in back of McDonalds and all Municipal Lots and parking meters will be free. What’s Happening in Ocean City

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OCEAN CITY THIS WEEKEND OVER 7,000 BIKERS will roll into Ocean City for the annual MS Bike-a-thon on Sat., Oct. 3. The event raises over $4 million for the Delaware Valley MS Society which services those afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis and searches for a cure. Bikers begin arriving at the Sports and Civic Center, 6th St. off Boardwalk, before noon and will spend the day in Ocean City leaving Sunday morning for the return trip to the Philadelphia area. The event was started by Philadelphia TV anchor and author, Larry Kane. The initial bike tour had 30 riders, Larry and a group of his friends. NATIONAL BOOK AWARD winning poet, Mark Doty and novelist Paul Lisicky will read from and discuss their work 7 p.m., Fri., Sept.25 at the Ocean City Arts Center, 17th and Simpson Ave. It’s not often that you get to meet a major poet and celebrated author on the same program. AVIATION WEEKEND: Our colorful and exciting Aviation Weekend is set for Sat. and Sun. Sept. 19-20. It includes a huge ground display of World War II Planes, Ultra Lights, Home Built, Classics and War Birds at the Municipal Airport on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will include a model airplane demonstration, tours of an FAA Twin Engine Plane, a Banner Pick-Up, a Coast Guard Rescue Demonstration and an opportunity to meet the performers in Sunday’s Aerobatic Air Show. There will also be a paper airplane contest for children at 11 a.m. between Hangers A and B, face painters for kids, airplane and helicopter rides for a fee. September 11th Ceremony, Street Rods This Weekend, Aviation Festival Next

SEPTEMBER 11: Ocean City remembers victims of the September 11th tragedy and celebrates its heroes. The remembrance ceremony begins 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 6th and Wesley Ave. John Divel, Commander of American Legion Post #524 and active in many veterans’ organizations, will be guest speaker. Bagpipe music will be part of the ceremony. In the event of bad weather, the ceremony will be held in the Tabernacle Auditorium across the street. Miss Ocean City Sat., Weird Contest Week Starts Monday!

Five weird contests presented with impeccable taste will be featured in Ocean City Aug. 17-21. Weird Contest Week, whose motto has always been and will always be “Wacky but Not Tacky,” features a series of unusual competitions starting 11 a.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The contests are spread out over five days so as not to over-dose the population in weirdness. Entry is free and there are categories for all age groups. Prizes are awarded. On Mon., Aug. 17 events kick-off with Salt Water Taffy Sculpting. Participants are asked to create works of art from sticky but pliable taffy provided by Shrivers on the Boardwalk.
