Street Rods, Sept. 11 Ceremony This Weekend, Air Festival Next

One of the City's most colorful events, the annual STREET ROD Show, is set for this weekend, Friday through Sunday (Sept. 10-12). Street Rod owners from throughout the East Coast will display over 200 of their enhanced vehicles for the 36th time here. A Street Rod is any car manufactured prior to1964 that has been modified with more modern parts. Owners are creative and in addition to adding exterior and interior modifications often paint unusual designs on the bodies of the vehicles. Cars will be parked at the Sports and Civic Center, 6th St. off Boardwalk, from noon Sept. 10 until 2 p.m. Sept. 12. Weird Contest Week Continues, Little Miss OC on Saturday

WEIRD CONTEST WEEK continues today, August 19 with Clip Art (make something meaningful out of paper clips) plus Ears Looking At You Kid, an ear wiggling contest, held for the first time at the Jersey Shore or any place else in the Universe as far as we know. (We googled Ear Wiggling Contests) and could find nothing. The event concludes on Friday, Aug. 20 with Miss Miscellaneous and Mister Miscellaneous plus Little Miss and Mister Chaos. The Miscellaneous Contests are for anyone who’s always wanted to be in a talent pageant but maybe missed the bus or got stuck at a rugby game. Baby Parade Today, Miss OC Sat., Weird Contests Next Week

LAST MINUTE REMINDER: Ocean City's 101st Baby Parade is set for today (Aug 12) starting 10:15 a.m. from 6th to 12th on the Boardwalk. Children from infants to ten years of age will be paraded in decorated strollers, carriages and floats. There will be bands, commercial floats. Ocean City’s Peaches Lukens, who has been active in charitable events and animal and environmental causes for years, will be grand marshal. A TWINS CONTEST follows the Baby Parade starting 6:30 p.m. in front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, with registration at 6 p.m. Entry is free and there will be prizes for those who look the most and least alike. Hermit Crab Pageant, Races, Aug. 4, Baby Parade Aug. 12

It is truly a clawsome event! A fascinating array of Hermit Crab hopefuls will compete for the title of MISS CRUSTACEAN 1 p.m., Wed., Aug. 4 at the 6th St. Beach. They will follow in the claw steps of such glamorous past title holders as Crabunzel, Crabahontis, Crabopatra, Crab Mc Muffin, Taxi Crab, Copacrabana, Crab Salad and Pirates of the Crabibbean. The winner captures the coveted Cucumber Rind Cup, a large trophy with a cucumber stuck inside. A cucumber represents a year’s supply of groceries for a hermit crab if supplemented with tree bark and pizza crust for fiber. Craft Show, Ferko, Movie Premier This Week, Night in Venice Next

Some of the most talented artisans on the East Coast will exhibit and sell their unique handiwork at Ocean City's indoor-out door SUMMER ARTS AND CRAFTS Festival on Sat., July 17 at Carey Stadium and the Sports and Civic Center, 6th St. off Boardwalk. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Festival is produced by the South Jersey Artisans Guild, whose previous shows here have set all time attendance records. Crafters will offer an array on unusual specialties including fine art, photography, hand blown glass, wood sun clocks and thermometers, vintage textiles, gourmet teas plus many other products. Miss NJ is Here, Restaurant Week Starts Sunday

The MISS NEW JERSEY Scholarship Pageant begins today, Thursday June 17, with two preliminaries and the finals on Saturday. Some tickets are available, call Mary Lou Cake, 609-315-1423. The Pageant will be held in the Music Pier Auditorium, all programs begin at 7:30 p.m. Twenty-seven local pageant winners from throughout the State will be vying for the title. The winner goes to Las Vegas in January to compete in the Miss America Pageant. Miss America will be nationally televised by ABC. It’s good to see the pageant back on a network where it belongs. Artisans, Humane Society Golf this Weekend, Miss NJ Next

The ARTISANS Order of Mutual Protection return June 11-13 for its 65th annual weekend in Ocean City. The Artisans are headquartered in Philadelphia and were formed over 100 years ago to provide insurance for working people. On Sat., June 12, the organization will present its annual Miss Artisan Pageant, 8 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. It is during this colorful event that the Artisans select the young lady to represent them for the coming year. There will be entertainment and admission is free and open to the public.
