Mayors Update March 21, 2020

Date: March 21, 2020
Dear Friends,
N.J. Gov. Phil Murphy issued an executive order effective at 9 p.m. tonight advising all people to “stay at home.” He urged owners not to go to their Jersey Shore homes and to stay at primary residences. All events and gatherings must be canceled.
The order closes all non-essential businesses to the public. Essential businesses include grocery stores, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, medical supply stores, gas stations, convenience stores, takeout restaurants, laundromats, liquor stores, banks, pet stores and office supply stores. The governor urged all businesses to make arrangements for employees to work from home, wherever possible. Construction work, construction supply stores and hardware stores may continue to operate.
Travel will be allowed only to these essential destinations, to take care of family, and to report to essential work.
Gov. Murphy emphasized that the executive order supersedes all local directives, and that it’s important that we all follow “one set of rules.” He is coordinating with governors from neighboring states.
The governor’s order allows people to take a walk, go for a run or engage in outdoor activities as long as they stay six feet from others.
The state has set up a one-stop shop for all questions related to the coronavirus pandemic, including which businesses are essential and what travel is allowed: covid19.nj.gov . Please visit this site to learn more and stay up-to-date on the latest instructions on how to stay safe.
Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
