Megan Hilty Opens 2018 Ocean City Pops season on July 2

Now in its third year, the OC-Con Comic and Memorabilia Festival joins the summer fun for 2018 after two years as an early-spring event. OC-Con opens on Thursday (June 28) and continues through Saturday (June 30) on the Ocean City Music Pier.

Stars of “Teen Wolf” and “Bosch” will be special guests, and tickets are on sale for exclusive photo and autograph sessions with Dylan Sprayberry (“Teen Wolf”) and Titus Welliver (“Bosch”). OC-Con features meet-the-artist sessions, discussion panels, costume contests, and the display and sale of comic books and memorabilia. Show hours will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. June 28, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 29 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 30.

OC-Con features a one-mile OC-Con Superhero Run at Carey Stadium at 9 a.m. June 30, and the Superhero Obstacle Dash for 12-and-unders at 10 a.m. June 30. Both events are on the track at Carey Stadium (beach block of Sixth Street). Run registration fee is $15 for adults ($20 on race-day) and includes admission to the show (for Saturday, June 30) and a T-shirt. The fee for 12-and-unders is $10 and includes the Obstacle Dash, as well as admission and a T-shirt. Register online.

Sprayberry is best known for portraying Liam Dunbar in MTV’s flagship drama series “Teen Wolf.” Sprayberry, 19, began his acting career at a young age, but his breakout role came in 2013 when he won the role of young Clark Kent in “Man of Steel,” the first film in Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe. Sprayberry is a regular for the fifth and final season of “Teen Wolf.” He will be part of a Q&A session (free with regular admission) at 6 p.m. Thursday June 28. Exclusive meet-and-greet sessions ($15 for photo or autograph, $20 for both) will start at 7 p.m. June 28.

Welliver portrays Los Angeles Police Department Detective Harry Bosch on the first hour-long drama produced by Amazon Prime Video. Filming for the fourth season of “Bosch” was recently completed, and the show already has been picked up for a fifth season. His credits also include roles in HBO’s “Deadwood,” ABC’s “Lost” and CBS’s “The Good Wife.” He has appeared in every one of Ben Affleck’s directorial films, including “Gone Baby Gone,” “The Town,” “Live By Night” and “Argo.” He will be part of a Q&A session (free with regular admission) at 5 p.m. Saturday June 30. Exclusive meet-and-greet sessions ($15 for photo or autograph, $20 for both) will start at 6 p.m. June 30.

Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango from Syfy Channel’s hit shows “Ghost Hunters” and “Ghost Hunters Academy will be on hand Friday, June 29 to greet fans and participate in an interactive live presentation from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (free with admission price).

OCEAN CITY POPS ORCHESTRA FEATURES MEGAN HILTY

Tickets are on sale now for the season-opening performance of the Ocean City Pops featuring Megan Hilty. The show is at 7:30 p.m. July 2 at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Hilty is most recognizable for her portrayal of Ivy Lynn in NBC’s musical drama “Smash.” She made her Broadway debut as Glinda in “Wicked.”  She went on to perform the role in both the national tour and in Los Angeles. She followed up the series with a starring role on the NBC comedy “Sean Saves the World.”

The Hilty performance will be just one show in a star-studded lineup for the Ocean City Pops this summer. The schedule includes shows to appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes.

WEEKLY EVENTS FOR SUMMER 2018

Ocean City’s popular weekly FARMERS MARKET opens for the season 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. It returns every Wednesday through Sept. 5 on the grounds of the Ocean City Tabernacle on the 500 block of Asbury Avenue. Crafters will be set up adjacent to the Farmers Market.

Families can use their creativity to shape and sculpt salt water taffy into their unique masterpieces during WACKY WEDNESDAY on June 27. The contest is free and open to all ages. Start time is 10:30 a.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk at Moorlyn Terrace. Sponsored by Shriver’s Salt Water Taffy. Starting in July and running through August, Ocean City’s boardwalk and downtown will be host to a series of weekly events:

  • Funtastic Tuesdays: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on downtown Asbury Avenue. Entertainment, face painters, balloon sculptors and more.
  • Mummers Nights: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays on the boardwalk. String bands strut the boards between Sixth Street and 14th Sponsored by: Shirt Shack, Preps, Ocean Treasures, Henry’s Fine Jewelry.
  • Beach Walks: South end location at 59th Street and Central Avenue (entrance to Corson’s Inlet State Park) Tuesdays at 9 a.m., Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. North end location at OC/Longport Bridge parking lot Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m, Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Tickets may be purchased on-site.  Adults $1, children 50 cents.
  • Market Days: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on downtown Asbury Avenue. Entertainment, face painters, balloon sculptors and more.
  • Family Nights: 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursdays on the boardwalk. Different bands and entertainers set up between Sixth Street and 14th Sponsored by: Shriver’s, Playland’s Castaway Cove and Johnson’s Popcorn.
  • Historic Tours: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays. Pick-up at 7th Street and Central Avenue.

BROADWAY ON THE OC BOARDWALK (June 27): Broadway will truly come to the Boardwalk as professional performers appearing in Ocean City Theatre Company’s 2018 Summer Season take to the stage to bring Broadway favorites to life. Headlining the evening will be Michael Lee Brown of Broadway’s “Dear Evan Hansen.” Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier. Tickets are $18 to $20. SOUTH END BIKE PARADE (July 4): Sponsored by the South Ocean City Improvement Association. Registration 9 a.m. at 40th Street and Asbury Avenue. Parade begins at 10 a.m.

A STAR-SPANGLED SALUTE (July 4): Ocean City Theatre Company’s Spotlight Performers Show Choir will present “A Star Spangled Salute” in front of the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and Boardwalk. The mini-show celebrating America’s birthday will begin at 6 p.m.

FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS AND CELEBRATION (July 4): Kite-flying competition at 7 p.m. followed by entertainment. A spectacular boardwalk fireworks display tops off the evening at 9 p.m. The fireworks will be launched from a barge off Ninth Street and best viewed from the beach and boardwalk between Fifth Street and 14th Street.

WACKY WEDNESDAY – PIE-EATING CONTEST (July 4):  Celebrate America with a good old-fashioned apple and cherry pie eating contest. No hands allowed! Contest is free. Open to all ages.
