This past week she climbed up a ladder and trimmed the Holly Tree in her back yard. In the winter she shovels the snow off her sidewalk. She is often seen walking the beach and her daily routine up to recently included an 8 mile bike ride to the end of the Boardwalk and back from her Gardens home. The petite, lady was ski instructor during World War ll in Newfoundland. She worked for the USO at a... Read More

Join the 59th Celebration of Night in Venice

Night In Venice will celebrate its 59th Anniversary on July 20th. The colorful Boat Parade and Bay celebration began in 1954 to mark the Diamond Jubilee or 75th Anniversary of Ocean City. It normally features about 80 boats and 250 decorated homes. This year the Parade will be enhanced by the HERO Foundation that promotes the use of designated drivers to end drunk driving tragedies. Thanks to its founders, Bill and Muriel Elliott, the program has gone national. It is now keeping drunk drivers off the roads in States throughout the country. The Elliott’s lost their son, Ensign John Elliott, a graduate of the Naval Academy, when he was struck and killed by a drunk driver. Christine Wright and I attended the session to assure Miss America officials that Ocean City was ready to host the State Pageant. Wright ran the pageant for about five years and was succeeded by Michael Allegretto, former City Recreation Director, who was later asked to join the Miss America staff. Lou and Silvia Barthold then took over and Lou now runs the pageant alone... Read More
